Early Returns on New Dining Survey Not So Favorable
I suspect that most of the restaurants in this booklet don't have what any statistician or social scientist would call a valid sample. Yet even if they did, so what? Restaurants can't be grasped and retained like a work of literature or art, and are too dynamic and subjected to economic tides and the personalities of those who own them. Truly one man's meat is another man's poison and there is no accounting for taste (to invoke two metaphors or cliches). Also, as I have written on boards before, restaurants almost always get worse. (More so than ever these days.) In the end, every food lover must become, and eventually does become, his own critic.
Alinea's Most Exciting Food
What happened to " I can't get enough of it "? Palate fatigue is another self-serving, recently-coined catchphrase that doesn't mean anything. It's badly-made food that makes for tired, bored palates. I'll be at Alinea December 31 and if it does anything to me, I'll put in my two cents.

There's nothing wrong with the savory food at Cafe Sabarsky. Wile I would like to see the menu more dynamic, you can eat quite well, and very well compared to most place nearby, with the wurst salad, goulash soup, wienerschnitzel among other dishes.
Shalezeh at 81st @ Third Ave. is a tasty and reliable Persian, bordering on Turkish, res\staurant. To me it's the best in the neighborhood for food of that region. The Persian and lentil soups are my favorite, along with the yogourt and cucumber appetizer and any of the lamb dishes (minced, shank, etc.) A quite good meal for the price.
