SURPRISE!!1!!1 What? Are you OK???
Fortunately I did eat eat it but . . . I was making some sort of an Asian dish with about $10 worth of pork (that was a lot of meat back in the day). It was looking pretty good and then the last thing I added was a can of Oriental veggies. Stirred them in and GAK! There was a huge roach floating around in my dish. Disgusting.
What food smell do you hate?
I like both ketchup and peanut butter, but when they get wet, I gag. Hate washing either one off dishes but I hold my breath and thoroughly wash before putting them in the dishwasher or I will have to leave the house while the dishwasher runs.
And I hate the smell of that that water left under the broccoli steamer. Maybe I just shouldn't have to do the dishes?
Giant Produce at the Alaska State Fair
Not sure where 786 pounds came from.
From the Anchorage Daily News: "Lucy Lu, a 1,287-pound pumpkin grown by John J.D. Megchelsen of Nikiski, took the title as the biggest pumpkin ever grown in Alaska at the Giant Pumpkin Weigh In at the Alaska State Fair on Wednesday."
And a 1,723-pounder named Patrick was disqualified because it had a hole in it.
Not amatuers.

Did NOT eat it. Fortunate to NOT have eaten it.

Ok- So What's Your Favorite Sandwich ?
It used to be grilled ham and cheese, sharp cheddar and black forest ham on rye. Then I had a croque madame. The extra fat (and cooking time) means it will be reserved for special occaisions, but if I was in Paris, I would say "Oooh-la-la"
Food Humor On Sitcoms
Kids in the Hall - Ham of Truth and Salty Ham. Oh, and Cabbage Head! Loved those guys.
Crazy Eats
Akutag - Eskimo ice cream of whipped Crisco, berries and fish. Didn't taste as bad as it sounds but I won't be making any at home. Hooligan grease (oil rendered from small fish) and used like butter. Have not tried whale, seal meat or seal oil . . . yet. Maybe someday. I love sushi but I think I'll pass on the puffer fish if the opportunity arises!
What "normal" food have you never had?
My husband has (seriously!) never had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Now it's a matter of prinicpal that he will never have one just so he can answer questions like this. I don't think I've ever had eggplant to my knowledge.
Where to eat in Washington DC?
Loved lunch at the cafeteria in National Museum of the American Indian. They had cuisine from many Indian cultures and it was really good food in a nice setting and decent price. Second Kathryn's rec of Zaytinya, but actually preferred Cava for a similar menu in a super-friendly atmosphere.
For all the Chocoholics!
Current favorite chocolate is Lindt's Intense Orange. A very good quality dark chocolate bar with finely chopped almonds and bits of "intensely" flavored citrus. A grown up version of the chocolate oranges I used to get in my Christmas stocking. Have been grating it to garnish desserts such as all-time favorite orange tapicoa pudding and stuffed strawberries too. Yum!
Drinking the Bottom Shelf: DeKuyper Fruit-Flavored Things
And now I want a pumpkin beer . . .
Are you a serial sampler?
I will try stuff at Costco. Have found some good things that I wouldn't normally buy in bulk without trying first. Nice to try apples and cheeses before buying a bunch. However, those frozen choc chip cookies are yummy in the store but don't taste as good when I make them at home, so I'll just keep sampling them in the store and make from scratch at home!
The $7 HALF Grapefruit
$22 bottle of water. In vegas . . . 'nuff said. I'll stick with alcohol next time!
Fresh Water Or Salt, What Is Your Favorite Fresh Caught Fish?
Halibut is number one, followed by king salmon. That being said, I have yet to eat a fresh fish I didn't like. My standards for fresh are pretty high though.
Culinary No Fly Zones
Bugs, internal organs, rotten food or pets. Cannot even bring myself to try them. I had to google balut, and I'm definitely not going there!
As a child I once ate and liked fried chicken hearts because someone LIED to me and I never forgave them. I did try escargot (with much wine involved, wasn't bad) and I will try any seafood/shellfish, raw or cooked.
Not sure I could get straight durian in my mouth, if it smells as bad as everyone says. And that rotten canned herring the Swedes eat, no way!
Do you like to cook or be cooked for?
Love to cook for others and love to be cooked for, especially by my husband. What I don't like is having to cook when I don't want to. We would have a lot more grilled cheese and tomato soup dinners than we do if my husband did not like cooking.
How old is your KitchenAid mixer?
I wish I knew how old my KA is. My husband got it for $25 at a rummage sale over 25 years ago and it's still great. I get a little KA envy when I see the pretty colored ones, but I have sentimental attachment to mine and wouldn't trade it for a new one (unless it died).
10 Things to Do with Peeps
Peeps on pizza is just wrong. Wrong.
Japanese Snacks: Pocky
Pocky maked a great garnish for desserts such as orange tapioca pudding. Two crossed in a dollop of cool whip takes the dessert up a notch with no effort. A since the box is open, you have to finish the rest. Win-win!
Food - Yes or No?
I dunno, I was just at my library and it said NO FOOD right on the door.
Boxed Convenience foods I have never used.
I remember trying Hamburger Helper as a newlywed and not liking it. Kraft Mac is around for the kids to make when on their own. I confess to loving Campbell's Tomato Soup, made with milk and accompanied by a toasted cheese sandwich, my favorite comfort-without-effort meal. People who say they never use convenience food must not work full time. I don't have time to bake my own bread, make my own tortillas or churn my own butter!
Food - Yes or No?
Food n. Material, usually of plant or animal origin, that contains or consists of essential body nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals, and is ingested and assimilated by an organism to produce energy, stimulate growth, and maintain life.
I think I must have had some, because even though I don't have energy, there is definite growth stimulation at my waistline, and I have a life.
Runny yolk, way or no way?
No. I like the yolk broken before cooking, because I want the yolk set but I don't want the egg cooked until it's like the bottom of a shoe. Consequently, I order scrambled eggs in restaurants because I don't want to sound like THAT customer. When my husband is cooking though . . .
I GOT YOUR CARD...RIGHT HERE!
I use the card that give me special prices + airline miles + gas discount(Safeway) and the card that gives me discounts and store cash back quarterly (Fred Meyer). I have no problem giving them their marketing data as long as I get something back. I will never forget my home number from 10 years ago because I keep having to enter it if I forget the card.
Only marginally off topic: I hate when they ask you "did you find everything today?" because if I say no, they just blink and keep right on ringing me up. Are you doing a survey? How many people did not find what they were looking for today? Only 12? We're doing great!
