The Burger Lab: Cheese Sauce for Burgers, Fries, and Chips

I read (and saved) this article last week. I seem to be getting repeats lately in my weekly e-mail from seriouseats.com

Best General Purpose Cookbook

I own so many cookbooks, I put a moratorium on any more purchases in order to avoid financial ruin. When it comes to holiday cooking (especially if you are Jewish), and general cooking skill, then Joy of Cooking is the one and only. This is the book I would keep if asked to have only one. It even helps you set a proper table (I always forget what side of the plate the forks go). The best Noodle Kugel recipe anywhere. The stuffed cabbage rolls are a classic (raisins and ginger snap cookies in the sauce!!!!! Who knew?) among other reasons to have this book. I don't even miss the pictures.

Ben and Jerry's Flavor Graveyard

I still dream of Holy Cannoli. My heart was so broken when it went away I drowned my sorrows in Hagaan Daz. Don't play with my loyalty.

Cook the Book: 'Rose's Heavenly Cakes'

I think the best cake is one the not only is delicious but evokes wonderful memories. When I was growing up, a visit to my Aunt Frances for a holiday dinner ALWAYS included a strawberry shortcake: not the crumbly kind, but from the bakery down the street in Cedarhurst: Huge glazed strawberries, tons of whipped cream and yellow cake. I can't look at that cake now without fond memories of my late Aunt, family get-togethers and still think it's the best cake on the planet.

The Food Lab's Top 10 Pieces of Kitchen Gear

My immersion blender is the best. I make eggplant caviar (a low cal version of babaganoush), the best carrot soup, hummus, quick stirs of anything, (tonight it will be the base for noodle kugel), well, it's just the most used utensil in my kitchen. I have the model pictured and the chopper attachment is the pits. Take pieces of onion to chop, place in container and press handle for about 2 seconds and watch your onions turn to liquid. Disgusting. I hand cut anything for pico de gallo type veggies....you can't control the shape with anything other than a knife

Brooklyn Water Bagels in Delray Beach, Florida

I'll stick with Sage bagels in Hallandale, but I'll keep an eye out for Brooklyn Water Bagels when i go to art festivals in Delray Beach. I live in the middle of both places. I miss the best bagels in Forest Hills, Queens. And if anybody remembers (it's probably still there) New Hyde Pizza in Howard Beach.

Taste Test: Greek Yogurt

Siggi is devine! And I hate yogurt, usually. I get mine at Whole Foods in South Florida. Slice in a banana and I don't miss sour cream at all.

For the laddies- Hottest Food Network Dude?

I forgot the name of the french chef with long hair on the Top Chef Masters. I found him incredibly hot. He's off limits but a girl can still dream. Tall and solid. I also liked the way he behaved.

I don't have a ___ in my kitchen and I don't want one.

I never got around to buying a Kitchen Aid mixer. Where would I put it? I like my hand mixer. I can't live without a wand blender. I have drawers full of gadgets, but just never could justify the expense of a Kitchen Aid. My most basic fave is a coffee scoop from Starbucks. It is two tablespoon measure so I use it as a measuring spoon for recipes that call for that amount. Kichen Aid also makes the world's worst hand can opener. Opens nothing. My ten buck electric works better. I use my collection of chopsticks for almost everything else. Simple is best.

Cook the Book: Martha Stewart's Hors d'Oeuvres Handbook

The first time I made eggplant caviar and it was such a hit, that I now have to make it everytime the family gets together. It's healthy, quick and sooo damn goooooooood. My pico de gallo also tends to disappear real quick.

What do you do with a bunch of bananas?

I just take ripened bananas, peel them and line them up onto trays for my food dehydrator. Two days later sweet, long lasting tasty treats are mine. Get a good price on the bananas by buying them in bulk at Costco or other clubs, although one bunch I bought never ripened. This is a great way to save a large amount of bananas before they go bad. Beware the temptation to eat more than one...that's still the same carb and calorie count as a fresh banana. I store them in baggies. MUCH cheaper than the version sold at Whoe Foods. For a little humor refer to them as "ex-boyfriends".
