Dinner in East Village?

The following are my must-eat places:

Caracas for arepas,
Ippudo for ramen,
Taishou for Japanese izakaya,
Polonia for pierogis (better than Veselka in my opinion),
Num Pang for Cambodian style sandwiches,
Panna for Indian,
Sigiri for Sri Lankan,
Porchetta for pork belly,
and Chikalicious for NY's best cupcakes!

All these are in your price range of $30 but Cafe Cortadito is also a must-eat although slightly more expensive.. they have the best churrascos and tres leches in town!

Kefi or Pylos: which Greek restaurant do you prefer?

Haven't tried Pylos yet.. but I've been to both Anthos and Kefi and Kefi is definitely the winner for me. The quality is superior than that of Anthos in my opinion and for those prices? Cm'on!

Squid ink?

Peferably I want the whole squid with everything still intact. I need this for a dish where the squid is cooked whole and the ink will just naturally come out during the cooking process. I was thinking an actual close to the port fish market would have this but I don't know if there's still one like that in the city that would sell to people other than restaurant and wholesale buyers.

Best pre-theater restaurant?

Casellula on 52nd and 9th is my favorite. All wine and cheese lovers have to check this place out. The food is great, the service attentive.. yes, they do ask you if you have a show to catch.. and they know their wines well.

Tea shops in Manhattan?

But if we're talking dessert shops CHikaLicious is the best place in NY!

If you like teas of Asian origin try Cha-An in East Village. The desserts are good too. Just remember it's cash only and it's a small place.

Conveyor Belt Sushi in Manhattan?

East is the only conveyor belt (kaiten) sushi place I know. Their sushi is pretty good but you'll have to order some things directly from the sushi chefs since they usually put out more popular rolls and such. So if you're looking for toro or uni ask the chef.

why has no one mentioned The Dumpling Man?

Dinner in East Village?

I like Motorino on E. 12th for great pizza.......
Supper on E. 2nd for really delicious pastas made fresh to order and DBGB for great burgers.
The East Village is so good.......don't forget about Katz's deli for great pastrami sandwiches, though it is kind of gross in there.

Cafe Itzocan is really excellent, though on the tiny side. Supper is also very good, especially as the weather gets colder.

NOT the Indian restaurants. They're terrible. But Sigiri is good and different.

Dinner in East Village?

Mama's on east 3rd and Ave A has some awesome comfort food!
Rai Rai Ken (forgot the street...11th? 10th) between 1st and 2nd has really good and authentic Japanese noodles
Little Poland has affordable, hearty Polish food (but I wouldn't reccomend for date night, since it feels like eating in your Polish grandma's kitchen)

what would you recommend to get at Pylos. I was looking at the Yelp reviews and some mentioned some dishes could be heavy on the salt. Any comments? Thanks.

Tea shops in Manhattan?

Radiance Tea House on 55th btw. 6th and 7th Aves is outstanding. A lot of variety but Chinese teas are the way to go (as is true everywhere).

Tea shops in Manhattan?

Tafu is gone, sadly. It was the best bowl of matcha in the city.

Cha An is still around, though, if you like the Japanese style of tea service. It's a hidden gem on 9th St., and the tea selection is extensive (and not all Japanese greens). The food is exquisite, too. It's not cheap, but it's not ridiculous.

If you want that- and you like the traditional British high tea service- do treat yourself to the Astor Court at the St. Regis some afternoon. It's over the top and completely worth it. (And under $50 if you don't opt for Champagne. But is not drinking a glass of Champagne ever really an option?)

From Talk

Tea shops in Manhattan?

Tafu was a nice place in the DoubleTree in Midtown East, more grab and go, but they had nice Japanese influenced sweets — matcha macaroons. I heard they may have just closed though. Follow Me Cafe has tea and crepes, neither are exceptional but the spot is "cute," certainly relaxing. St. Alp's Tea House in the East Village, lots of bubble teas, although it can get loud and busy. For straight up sweets in Hells Kitchen drop by Kyotofu.

I forgot about Alice's Tea Cup. They have a wonderful tea list and yummy scones with clotted cream.

I went to East and had a great time, thanks for all the recommendations!
