Date Night: Tabaré

Too bad the service took away from the experience.. But Tabare is a great spot for Williamsburg. Affordable prices, good food, nice ambience.

Sugar Rush: Matcha Tiramisu at Spot Dessert Bar

Love Spot! I was just there and had the coconut cheesecake and the yuzu crepe cake from their new menu. It's my understanding though that Chef Ian Kittichai is only a consulting chef, is he not?

2012 NYC Michelin Guide Starred Restaurants Announced

Awesome about Eleven Madison Park. The 3 stars is well deserved. Excited about SHO and Danji as well.

And I agree, it's been super difficult trying to get a seat at Brooklyn Fare. So how much more so now that they've got 3 stars..

Win Two Tickets to the 2011 Wines from Spain Great Match

My favorite Spanish wine is actually a type of sherry, the Pedro Ximenez 1975 is particularly splendid! And for tapas, the classic gambas a la plancha and steak cubes with sweet green peppers, the way they do in Barcelona, are my favorite!

Date Night: Flea Market Cafe

Great article! Flea market cafe has been a stand by spot for me and my friends for years! Their sunset menu is the best deal in the village and the service is great!

M. Wells Diner: A Fine Diner In Long Island City, Queens

The $42 burger is seriously huge! It feeds at least 4 people. Their bigger dishes are awesome for a group of 6-8 but even some of their small dishes are plenty for 2. I agree that eaters everywhere owe it to themselves to go try M. Wells. I went several weeks ago and was blown away! And the service is incredibly friendly! I dined by myself and it had to be the most pleasant solo dining experience I've had. Must try dish? The Lee Perkins Tuna!

One-shot cooking classes pro or not pro / NYC area

Look up The Social Table. My friends and I are doing a class with them this Wednesday. They vary their menu every month but they get booked really fast so you would just have to be on top of their website.

Try Cha-An in the East Village

Yakitori NYC

You say you're familiar with the places in St. Marks.. so I assume you've done Taisho? And that didn't do it for you?

Just wondering.. since I've lived in Japan and nothing beats Taisho for yakitori in NYC for me as far as food and the izakaya atmosphere is concerned. Gyu-kaku is good for yakiniku but not for yakitori. Haven't been to Totto since I'm very much content with Taisho but I should check it out just for the sake of comparison..

The Best Taiwanese Shaved Ice in New York

This all looks and sound yummy and I'm all ready to go on a food trip to Flushing now. However, how about some Filipino halo-halo? That's my personal favorite. Any Manhattan spots for that?

Dinner in East Village?

The following are my must-eat places:

Caracas for arepas,
Ippudo for ramen,
Taishou for Japanese izakaya,
Polonia for pierogis (better than Veselka in my opinion),
Num Pang for Cambodian style sandwiches,
Panna for Indian,
Sigiri for Sri Lankan,
Porchetta for pork belly,
and Chikalicious for NY's best cupcakes!

All these are in your price range of $30 but Cafe Cortadito is also a must-eat although slightly more expensive.. they have the best churrascos and tres leches in town!

Kefi or Pylos: which Greek restaurant do you prefer?

Haven't tried Pylos yet.. but I've been to both Anthos and Kefi and Kefi is definitely the winner for me. The quality is superior than that of Anthos in my opinion and for those prices? Cm'on!

From Talk

Squid ink?

Peferably I want the whole squid with everything still intact. I need this for a dish where the squid is cooked whole and the ink will just naturally come out during the cooking process. I was thinking an actual close to the port fish market would have this but I don't know if there's still one like that in the city that would sell to people other than restaurant and wholesale buyers.

Best pre-theater restaurant?

Casellula on 52nd and 9th is my favorite. All wine and cheese lovers have to check this place out. The food is great, the service attentive.. yes, they do ask you if you have a show to catch.. and they know their wines well.

But if we're talking dessert shops CHikaLicious is the best place in NY!

From Talk

Tea shops in Manhattan?

If you like teas of Asian origin try Cha-An in East Village. The desserts are good too. Just remember it's cash only and it's a small place.

Conveyor Belt Sushi in Manhattan?

East is the only conveyor belt (kaiten) sushi place I know. Their sushi is pretty good but you'll have to order some things directly from the sushi chefs since they usually put out more popular rolls and such. So if you're looking for toro or uni ask the chef.
