Seriously Italian: Speck from Alto Adige
@zedvaint: German speck and italian speck don't have anything in common! As you said, german speck is basically lard, whereas the Speck di Alto Adige is exactly what the post is about, a cured smoked meat, that is.

Strange but Tasty Childhood Snacks
Growing up in the Ucraine, often had this snack with my grandma : LARD, straight from the fridge, cut in little pieces, with some raw garlic and a bit of dark rye bread. Could't touch it now!

Jamie Oliver: Dinner Cooked for G20 'a Success'
To sfullers: until reading this thread I was convinced that you are supposed to clean your poop with a piece of toilet paper rather than with your bare hand ..... Anyway, if not washing hands properly, isn't it likely that even the gloves will be contaminated if put on by dirty hands??

This one looks great!
You can make a lot of salads with colrabi: grate it, mix with finely chopped red onions and chopped dill and add sour cream, or mix it grated with apples, chopped nuts, parsley and ham stripes with a light vinaigrette. You can even make a casserole with cubed colrabi, cubed ham and bechamel sauce - colrbi it gets very soft and almost creamy when cooked.

My favorite meatless meal would have to be the Lebanese stew a good friend of mine made for a dinner party once - such a hearty mix of carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, leeks, onions, radishes, and spices, and I really couldn't have enough. Now that I have the recipe I make it all the time as a real comfort food type of meal. Thanks!
