If you are traveling from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, take a turn off I-10 to I-55 to go 15 miles to Middendorf's for their thin fried catfish. It is about 1/4-inch thick, wonderfully seasoned with a combo cornmeal/flour seasoned breading and it's out of this world dipped in tartar sauce. Thanks to the tip from this site. Catherine

Julia Child taught me to cook - literally. My mother, a non-cook, used to watch Julia on PBS because she thought she was funny. That's why I started watching, too. Then she lured me in and taught me via black and white TV to care about food. Edna Lewis would be a close second. She was a very gentle soul.
I was warned to call ahead for hours and days. Next time I will try a piece of the pie if I have room!

Kraft Macaroni and Cheese and not prepared according to the package directions. Boil the macaroni and add about half a stick of butter (reall butter). Then add the powdered cheese stuff. Then add only enough milk to make the mac and cheese creamy but not runny. Can you tell I've perfected this method? Then eat the entire - yes, the entire - pot.
Publix deli meats (thin sliced)
Fresh Express bagged butter lettuce
Some kind of refrigerated cookie dough (for hubby)
Whole milk (for son)

When I was a kid, it was oj and warm pastries from Dianda's in San Francisco (pre-Tartine days, obviously.) Now that I'm a grownup, it's a cappuccino with toasted panettone.
this year it's just me and my beloved partner. i'm fixing her favourite breakfast -- banana cornmeal pancakes with warmed maple syrup and toasted pecans, crispy streaky bacon, and lots of hot coffee (spicy eggnog flavour from green mountain coffee).
My wife has picked up on my mom's tradition of a breakfast casserole in the morning. A more appetizing name for it would be a savory breakfast bread pudding I suppose. Toasted wheat bread, a nice sharp cheddar, and your favorite breakfast sausage layered in a dish with an egg/milk mixture poured on top.
Our enduring Christmas tradition - breakfast at my mother's house. We all pile into our assorted cars and travel the 20 miles to gather at Mom's for a feast. There is quiche, scrambled eggs, baked ham, cinnamon rolls and whatever else is brought to the table.
It is a time to count our blessings, love each other and celebrate another holiday together. The guests are older now, with all of the grandkids as adults, but the festive atmosphere remains undiminished. We open our $10 gift exchanges and bask in the warmth of love.

I'll roll-it, bake it and freeze it tonight. -- It takes a lot of willpower to not cut into one of the coffecakes when they are warm from the oven. mmmmmmm
we spend christmas in méxico every year, and the highlight is my mother's pancake breakfast. we always start off the morning with freshly brewed coffee while we cook up a storm. the pancakes are blue corn with pine nuts, and she serves them with fried eggs, bananas and blueberries, and maple syrup. can't wait!
I always take my rings and watch off and put them inside the same cupboard so I know where they are, and I avoid any "down the drain" episodes. Greyhoundgrrl, you should be happy that your husband still notices these things!
If your diamonds get dingy, you can clean them with the steam wand of an espresso machine. I occasionally steam clean my wife's jewelry in this manner and it really does work - I figured this out after watching my jeweler steam clean them in his store.
