Picnic in the park: fried chicken, succotash, blueberry pie. maybe some spicy deviled eggs too.

What Is Superman Ice Cream?

At summer camp in NY state (dutchess county) we had something that sounds pretty similar, but called it "CRAZY VANILLA". 20 years later, and an ocean away, I dream about it..

First Look at the New Yankee Stadium Food

I've always been a fickle baseball fan -- rooting for the NY team wth cuter players, prettier uniforms, or star players, but now I see the fault of my ways. Must root for the team with the best stadium food. Citi field seems to win the food game, so I'll be a Met's fan for now.

P.S. I heard a rumor that the original Carvel on Central Ave. was closing; is it true?

From A Hamburger Today

Gourmet Burger Kitchen Is Not Bad for the UK

ok, the secret to the perfect GBK burger is to order the JUNIOR burger. It's plenty big by burger standards, and the ratio of everything is much better. The cheese on these is always perfectly melted and fused to the burger, and I really must say that it "reminds" me of Shake Shack style burgers. It gets nice and greasy with the cheese.

Been here for 3 years now, and UK beef pretty much disgusts me in any other form, but I keep going back to the Jr. Burger at GBK.

Snapshots from the UK: The English Foodstuff Lexicon

Yes, marrows are like big zucchini, but IMHO much more impressive in stature than flavor. Way watery!

Lots of different names for varieties of potatoes here, and don't forget that US cilantro = UK coriander.

What Is Superman Ice Cream?

I spotted this flavor offering at an ice cream store in Annapolis, MD. SUPERtasty, though that was the first time.

From Serious Eats

What Is Superman Ice Cream?

I love Superman Ice Cream and my boyfriend from New York thought it sounded disgusting. He went for a walk one time while in Michigan and stopped at Strohl's for an ice cream and decided to give Super Rainbow (named changed because of copyrights) a try and loved it. BTW Strohl's flavors are SUPER RAINBOW—Blue moon, red pop, and lemon ice creams swirled together. A gallon that I bought stated Blue moon, Banana, and Raspberry. So I think it depends on where you buy it and they do taste slightly different. Though I think the Blue moon is the key flavor and over powers the others a little, so the difference is not that noticable. I will post any other flavors I see posted on the ice creams. And for those who never had it you do not realize what you are missing.

What Is Superman Ice Cream?

All of my friends in NC think I am absolutely CRAZY! There is a sweet shop in Boone/Blowing Rock (the mountains) that sells it and no matter what I have to have it when I visit there! I walked down the street when it was snowing with a waffle cone filled with it! I haven't lived in MI in years and nobody anywhere else I have been seems to know about it. My friends in NC also think it is disgusting- but they didn't like Faygo Redpop either so what do yhry know? Ha, they just don't have the refined taste buds that those of us who were born/lived in MI have :)

From Serious Eats

What Is Superman Ice Cream?

I'm from southern california and they used to sell it everywhere in the 1990s but I recently tried to find it but no one has it and there also used to be a loony tunes brand knock off of the superman icecream but I still can't find either

What Is Superman Ice Cream?

You can get Superman Ice Cream at Kilwins in Asheville, NC as well as Gatlinburg, TN. It is awesome. MY neice picked it out for herself - she is 4. When I saw it I knew I had to try it - I am 36. It was fantastic! This is my new favorite.

4th of July: What's on Your Menu?

I didn't see it on anyones menu, but I was at a large food suppliers cash n carry store the other day, and it seemed like everyone but me was in there to pick up clams for the 4th. I picked up a clam knife so I'll be ready for next year.

From Serious Eats

4th of July: What's on Your Menu?

I'm going to a potluck BBQ, hopefully some good grub, looking forward to hot dogs and burgers with lots of sides.

My additions are lemon zucchini bars with cream cheese frosting and blueberries and raspberries dotting the top for a patriotic touch. Plus a New Year's bean salad with artichokes. Very flavorful and healthy.

From Serious Eats

4th of July: What's on Your Menu?

making rib eye, chicken & broccoli sausage, hot dogs, potato salad, pasta salad, green salad, corn on the cob, drunken fruit salad, banana pudding (recipe from Buttercup bake shop) and a guest will be bringing goodies from Momofuku's dessert & milk bar.... (hopefully my cornflake-marshmallow choc. chip cookies) beer, sangria

I was reading some of the other comments posted and the "Scrambled dogs" sounds interesting as does the snicker's salad--HHMMM?!?

From Serious Eats

4th of July: What's on Your Menu?

BBQ chicken, corn on the cob, fresh fruit salad ( I grew the fruit!) , deviled eggs, regular green salad(mom grew the lettuce) and a huge 4 layer chocolate cake. I like to keep it classic and simple. Although, I must say I feel like I am missing something still...

From Serious Eats

4th of July: What's on Your Menu?

Grilled brats, corn on the cob, potato salad, cole slaw, watermelon and
ice tea. For two! Oh and the cat will get whatever falls on the floor.

From Serious Eats

4th of July: What's on Your Menu?

Grilled NY Strips, beer can chicken, salt potatoes, quinoa and wild rice salad, grilled corn, and roasted balsamic cipolline onions and mushrooms. I think dessert will be a peach and berry crisp with icecream.

From Serious Eats

4th of July: What's on Your Menu?

My parents are having 40+ people over. My dad will be grill burgers, hot dogs, turkey sausage, ribs, skirt steak, brisket, and chicken and will be making turkey chili and a smoked turkey meatloaf. There is probably at least a few things I am forgetting. My mom will be making most of the salads (cole slaw, carrot salad, green salad, maybe pasta salad). I'll be making mini cornbread muffins with corn and jalapeno, pico de gallo, roasted tomato salsa, roasted red pepper hummus, white bean dip, and artichoke-olive dip and bringing it with me to their house, and I'm going to make guac when I get there tomorrow. My grandma will make a couple desserts and then guests will bring some too.

I just got full reading all that!

From Serious Eats

4th of July: What's on Your Menu?

Sausage, potato salad, corn on the cob, baked beans and maybe pasta salad and that angel food cake dessert sounds good, except I'll have to make it with real whipped cream (or maybe Bittman's Almond Cream Anglaise) and homemade angel food cake.

Unfortunately, it's going to be sunny and warm here. I really enjoyed the 60s and rain all week.

The 4th of July menu will probably be Italian since we've settled on meeting at Italian Village/Short North in Columbus.

First Look at the New Yankee Stadium Food

I recently did 1st visit to pro baseball last month to new Yankee Stadium. Carl's philly steak w/ cheezwhiz was fantastic, luckily took advice that I would not have room for fries. I've spent $20 on far worse than one of them babies and a beer in my time. If any AA members are reading, screw the meetings "Hi, I'm Adam, I'm an alcoholic, and my wife Eve is addicted to apples." (or something like that) At $9 a beer, recovery comes quickly. I wasn't even driving, legally could have though. Dinner at Hard Rock next time, not just a t-shirt and a draft...

I only tried the garlic fries on my first visit, but they were the best I've had. More well done than at Safeco Field and the Ballpark Formerly Known As PacBell. It's a good thing I didn't eat more. I might not have been able to keep it down after the Indians scored 14 runs in the second inning. I'm heading back this Saturday and plan to get some BBQ. I was gonna check out the Cuban sandwich too. Thanks for the heads up, Erin. I hope I have some room when I get to the stadium. I'm making my inaugaral visit to the Red Hook trucks on their 2009 opening day.

Ciao,

Good stuff. I've been to 2 games and had my fair share of food. Overall not impressed, but wasn't expecting much. The Billy Barou nachos were tops on my list followed by Lobels, and the chicken noodle bowl was decent. Still prefer grabbing a quality boars head sandwich from the Banana Deli on 161st St. for $5 and bringing it in. Thankfully we're still able to bring food in. Check out my rundown with a lot pics HERE.

Oh, and soft pretzels were $4.50 and 600-something calories. I had a bite of one and it was gross.

Went to the game yesterday. Other than the prices being ridiculous - I think only the pretzel and pizza prices stayed the same - what is even more ridiculous is the calories listed for every single menu item. I will be bringing my food in the rest of the season. It might have the same amount of calories, but it will taste 100 times better and cost less than half the price.
