Simple, Juicy Burgers at White Rose Bar & Grill in York, Pennsylvania
I have had many a beef sandwich at the White Rose, but never a burger. Guess I'll have to try it when I'm up that way again. Since we get there only a few times per year, I like the Roadhouse's 10 oz. burgers on old Rte. 30 across form the old Stony Brook Drive-In.

Good dog has a great burger. I like Charlie's in Folsom. Rouge has a huge burger 12 oz., I believe which is super also. Pub & Kitchen is nice also.

Vote for Your Favorite Green Chile Cheeseburger in New Mexico
I vote for Bobcat Bite. I also recommend Bert's Burger Bowl. Both are in Santa Fe. There's a small chain in ABQ called Blake's Lotaburger which has pretty good ones for a chain.
@jword2001 - a green chile cheeseburger is wonderful. I, too, was skeptical, but have since become quite fond of them. There's something about that sauce.

12 of of America's Best Burgers from Epicurious
I guess for the "Epicurious" among us the list is OK, however, I would very seldom go to most of the listed places and order a burger (except Bobcat). I agree w/ Patty that Bobcat isn't the best in Sante Fe or NM, but it's really a burger-type place, rather than the fancy steak places listed. Give me the greasy burger places instead.

Good looking burger - but toss the avocado.
Cook the Book: 'Bobby Flay's Burgers, Fries & Shakes'
Best burger I ever had was at the Washington House in Mt. Joy, PA in 1969. This was an old "hotel" now called a bar and grill. A friend and I got the house cheeseburger - a char broiled 1/2 pounder that was so marvelous, as we were finishing we both looked at each other and said, "that tastes like another!" Which is what we did.
Five Dollar Value Meal at Krystal
I'd rather they offered 4 Krystals on two double cheese Krystals instead of the Angus burger.
The Burger Bus, a School Bus-Turned-Food Truck
Don't think they are related - but there is a Rocky's Burger Bus in Calgary, Alberta made from a Greyhound-type bus. They have huge wonderful burgers.

Aargh, I was thinking the same thing. Is this guy trying to be the next food/travel writer for Epicure or is he a weirdo fantasizing about his sister?
P.S. - I bet he also voted for Nobama.
Travel + Leisure on America's Best Burgers
This is why I dislike these "10 Greatest-Type Lists." About 6-7 of them are not even my favs within the city they choose, let alone the best across the country. I must calm down and realize that everyone has an opinion, but there is no way Ranch 616 is better than Hut's or Dirty Martin's or Casino El Camino in Austin, nor is Duchamps better than Billy Goat Tavern or Kevin's Hamburger Heaven in Chicago, and several others. And, someone said it before I....Black Iron? No way!
A Premium Burger at 25 Degrees in Hollywood, California
I'm glad that everyone seems to like this "fancy" upscale burger place. My experience at these types have been weak on the burgers but way overboard on the pretense (see: FLIP in Atlanta). The Counter has been the ideal ratio for good burgers and pretense in my experience. But I recommend better food at lesser atmosphere places.

Five Burger Joints CNN Wants You to Visit
Ann's is an ATL landmark. It's in a questionable part of town, and it isn't very big. Get there early or wait awhile. But the ghetto burger is worth it. I prefer mine w/o chili as it is messy enough without having to be hosed off to return to work.
Strip Burgers in Las Vegas
What a picture! Where was it from?
Dear AHT: 'Behold the Nexus'
It's still a "pile of burgers and crap." You can call it anything you want. I don't care if it was inspired by the Virgin Mary, I believe most folks here are looking for GOOD QUALITY BURGERS and where to find them. I go along with Big B above, let's all go out and throw enormous amounts of junk together, add a burger or two, slap it between pizzas, or hubcaps, or whatever, and call it a "burger creation inspired by dancing nymphs."
Flip Burger Boutique Expanding to Other Cities
I posted about this once before. The burgers at Flip in ATL are too expensive for what you get, except the yuppie decor and phony "urban" crowd. If I want a good burger without all the pretense, there are plenty of places in the area. Skip the frou-frou and go to Ann's Grill or the Vortex. I'll even go to a chain like Five Guys and have a better burger. Incidentally, The Counter is about as up-scale as I'd like to go for a burger - theirs is very good.
Review of The Counter in Honolulu: Great Burgers, Long Wait
The Counter burgers are surprisingly good for a chain - I had one in Charlotte last week. The fries and onion strings are very good as well. The salad dressing was superb, although the salad was small-ish and I liked the sweet tea. Our service was excellent and I particularly liked the waitress' suggestion to forego the 2/3 lb. burger and order the 1/3 instead. It was plenty big - in fact, seemed much bigger than 1/3 lb. as advertised.
On Oahu, I would have a difficult decision to make - either Teddy's or Counter. Perhaps the location would determine the choice.

Noel - glad you're back. I missed the reviews and had to wing it on my trtavels to Lewisburg and Dallas.
Grand Opening of Flip, a New Burger Joint in the Manhattan Bloomingdale's
I don't know if this 'flip" is from the same "chef" which opened a "flip" in ATL before Christmas, but that place is trying to be a "gourmet" burger joint - but it really is lacking in burger-ness. Pretense, oh yeah, but burger-ness, no. Give me a 3x2 In and Out anyday before flip, and I'll save a bundle also.

May's are OK, but Teddy's Burgers are better - sort of in a Five Guys way.

No Burger Bliss at Bohemia Bagel in Prague, But At Least the Fries Are Good
WTF does Nobama's inauguration have to do with "deciding to begin my burger tour of Prague." I can think of hundreds of reasons to begin a burger tour without invoking the Messiah's influence. I want to barf in honor of the Chosen One's inauguration. Puh-leze! Give me a freakin' break.
Of course, Lizzy and her Vassar buddies are proto-typical leftist liberals, getting their euro-weenie indoctrination to all that's bad about America from the Euro libtards who wouldn't know a good burger if it fell into their leftist loving, muslim appeasing, irrelevant laps.
Roger Ebert on His Love for Steak 'n Shake
Yahoo - maybe you had a bad visit, but their shakes usually are pretty good. Also, they've been going strong for 70+ years so I don't think they'll be out of business soon.
Roger Ebert on His Love for Steak 'n Shake
I don't consider S & S to be a "fast food" place. Any place that serves on china with metal utensils is not a fast food place to me. Anyhow - they do have good burgers, and as someone mentioned above - they are getting smaller. I usually go for the triple cheese with a salad and fries, and a wonderful fountain cherry coke.
A Premium Burger at 25 Degrees in Hollywood, California
Save your money, folks. The burger at 25 Degrees is a sad affair. Today, the service was both inattentive and poorly timed. But on to the food. Great rings and tasty fries. The burger meat itself is great--one is keenly aware that it is sirloin, and that is a good thing. Sadly, both burgers were overcooked, and the bun is a disaster. The top of bun was tough and dry enough to make a "thock" sound when tapped with a fingernail. It basically overwhelmed the burger with dry joylessness. The bottom of the bun, also a shamefully overbaked puck of parched, crumbling sadness. The cheese was not melted over the burger, but simply served as an unmelted pile of gunk in the center of the burger, which had so be scraped from the bun and then spread.
The high point is that the waitress must have stuffed two angels down the back of her pants to present such a compelling view. So, the highlights---Good sides, good sights, good sirloin.
Overview: 25 Degrees is a weak suck and can be avoided.

I've eaten almost every burger on the board and think that Grace Tavern has the tastiest burgers of them all. Substitute the fries with the blackened green beans. They're sensational.
Simple, Juicy Burgers at White Rose Bar & Grill in York, Pennsylvania
Appalled at the Bigotry Oct 3rd 2009
Well, first off, I have to give kudos for one item at the White rose. We were all very happy with the food (yum salmon wrapped in bacon). But, what happened next will probably keep us all from ever going back.
To start as we were all but finished our food. The (management) came out and canned the entertainment in the middle of his set. (Live acoustic guitar) It was very nice and he could actually sing (on key). As he packed(broke down) his gear; a somber note rang throughout the lounge area as the gentlemen removed his equipment and the management put the awful fm radio back on. As a side note we approached the musician; he shared the little factoid; he was told to quit because he wasn’t right for the crowd. Oddly though that LOTS of people were singing along with him (the musician). Anyway, that isn’t the reason why we will never return just yet.
We were now done eating (an hour and half had passed) and the waitress took away all our plates and utensils. This is when my sister got a text from a friend about dropping by to join us for a couple drinks. He arrived within a few minutes and went up to the bar and got his beer. Then we talked about all sorts of things for roughly 30 minutes. Then another friend texted us and joined us. Now here is where it starts to go under for our party of 6 which just spent over a 100.00 on food not to mention the drinks on top of that. Our new guest went to the bar and got his draft. Now we chatted for another roughly another 10 mins MAX. Then a member of management came over and started to harass our first guest. His ID was cracked; and he was told he could no longer be served and should leave. We all piped up and said perhaps he should check all our IDs (Mind you none of our party was carded at all and served multiple times) – An it should also be noted our latest guest LOOKED like they might be 18 at best, However, our young looking guest is as gay as a 3 dollar bill and Mexican/Native American and perhaps they didn’t want to be so bold as to play that race and discrimination card. Yet, we know now they don’t like people of color, since the person they harassed incessantly was black and was threatened with calling the police. Mind you, this person (our black friend) was as quiet as a mouse during most of our conversations among ourselves. So in closing, if you are a lily white group of people keep it as such, if you want to have a good time. But, if you want to get kicked out and bullied by Bigots – By all means invite your friends of color. It will just make your bloody day. – Perhaps they should rename themselves the ((White Lily)) – Anyway, none of us will set foot in their establishment again. SHAME since they had good food, but, I don’t endorse BIGOTS.

Hey dude, you got to eat at the restaurant that was next to Jim Rockford's trailer!!! That's seriously cool. I'm all over this place when I get to LA. FYI it used to be called the Sandcastle.

We went to the White Rose yesterday after YorkFest specifically to try the burgers - fantastic! Too big to even finish, but absolutely delicious. Next time I will get a plain cheeseburger, because the meat itself had more than enough flavor that we didn't even need the rest of the fanfare on top. Thanks for the great recommendation!

There was a major error in the Top 50 list. Coming in at #24 is a burger from Burgers, Fries and Cherry Pies. It is called the French Connection and is topped with bearnaise sauce. I never thought I would enjoy a burger without cheese, but WOW. It is absolutely delish.

"The Burger" @ Serrano's on 2nd is pretty tasty as well. And I have to also agree with Jessward about the Johnny Brenda burger. That is quite tasty also. I have yet to try the Evolution or the Sketch burger. This is a great post. I can't wait to do some Philly burgering again.
Dear AHT: Best Burgers in Philly?
I'm on a mission to convince people that the best burger in Philly doesn't look like any burger they've ever seen before - it is the Chapli Kabob at Kabobeesh in University City. Well worth expanding your horizons for (sadly no bacon available though).

I love Philly burgers but being a Jerzee girl my favorite burger is actually in Atlantic City. Gallagher's pub is an offshoot of Gallagher's Steakhouse located in Resort's casino on the dining level. The Gallagher burger is juicy, cooked to order and you can choose from an array of toppings. My husband laughs at me when I eat one because all I say after my burger arrives and I bite into it is ummm, ummm, ummm. You cannot talk to me til I am done. It is worth the ride, although we are usually already downa shore anyway.

While I'm not a vegetarian and I'm known to eat beef burgers, I have to give it to National Mechanics for their Veggie Burger. Yes, a veggie burger is my favorite burger in Philly. Filled with finely shredded fresh vegetables like carrots, broccoli, and zucchini (among others), it's a burst of vegetable goodness in your mouth. And it's quite sizable. So you will be sated. Comes with their yummy hand-cut steak fries, too.

Best burgers I've had in Philly, no contest, are at a super cheesy looking place called Copabanana. Great fries too. I always go to the location at 40th and Spruce, but there are 2 other locations. I've tried the burgers at Parc, Butcher & Singer, Good Dog and other famous and popular burger spots, and as far as I'm concerned, none compare to Copabanana.

For me, the best burger in Philadelphia, without question is Barclay Prime pub burger. (NOTE: Not the kobe sliders. The pub menu burger - happens to be a couplet of mini burgers.)

How has no one said the burger at Noble American Cookery yet?
Grass-fed, topped with a big slice of beet, sauce gribiche, some lovely cheese and for one single dollar extra, a twice-fried, chopped BACON WAFER.
The beet ketchup that comes with the fries is also worth the visit. Truly magical.
Dear AHT: Best Burgers in Philly?
You all need to stop in and try Sketch Burger in Fishtown. I like a lot of these places on the list but Sketch's is definitely better than some of these.
How one can narrow it down is a mystery to me though. This town has no shortage of burgers.
Let's get as big a list of cheese steaks, because frankly the pickings are slim.
Dear AHT: Best Burgers in Philly?
South Philly Taproom has a good grass-fed burger..
Diner style I go for Little Pete's (17th & Locust, 24 hours) all the way. Snow White Diner (19th & Chestnut) also has a decent burger, on Craig Laban's list a few years ago, not sure if it still holds up.
Also check out Nick's Charcoal Pit on Snyder for a Char-Grilled burger on a kaiser roll covered in bacon and cheese whiz.
Dear AHT: Best Burgers in Philly?
My two favorites are the Royal Burger at Royal Tavern (angus, bacon, gouda, long hots, caramelized onion, spicy mayo), which I believe I've seen on AHT before, and the Kelly's Burger from Grace Tavern, the simplest, most delicious bacon cheeseburger in all the land.
Dear AHT: Best Burgers in Philly?
Mitch Prensky's burger at Supper was an unexpectedly awesome discovery at brunch one Sunday. One of the best burgers I've tasted in a while. Also fond of the burger at McCrossen's Tavern. It's unfancy, unfussy, well-constructed, plus good fries.
Dear AHT: Best Burgers in Philly?
Standard Tap and Royal Tavern are my favorites. The Khyber does a small version of the RT burger for just a few bucks, which is great because then you have room to try other things. Standard Tap has the best fries in the city, in my opinion. Greasy but crispy with bits of peel left on.
I like the Good Dog burger with cheese on top, not inside. The temperature of the cheese stuffed one turns me off if they cook it medium and I just don't like burgers cooked more than that.
For Pete's Sake also has an excellent burger. And Coco's on jewelers row has really good kobe burgers - get them with the salad instead of fries and order a $3 mountain of freshly fried potato chips sprinkled with blue cheese and scallions to share with your table.
Dear AHT: Best Burgers in Philly?
I'm a purist - just burger and bun - so many of the city's 'best burgers' don't stand up under that scrutiny (Monks, this means you - I've never had a good burger there, and I found the Good Dog one pretty disappointing). But nothing has topped the Varga Bar's burger for me - I like Pub & Kitchen too, but the Varga offering is in another class. I heartily second Jess's suggestion about Evolution for California-style burgers - they even outdo In n Out.
In the burbs, TJ's in Paoli has the best, with Teresa's Next Door in Wayne very close.
