Cooking Injuries?
I once was frying up some bacon, and the grease popped and landed directly on my eyeball.
I had to wear an eyepatch for a week.
Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Korin Knife
Didn't I enter this one last week? I have a 6" Calphalon nakiri that is as sharp as anything.

Super Bowl Giveaway: California Avocado Gift Box for Guacamole-Making
I was whining to my wife about the lack of palatable tomatoes (seriously, the ones I can find here aren't even decent) and how I wanted a BLT, so we substituted avocado for the tomato. It was delicious (and would be even better with a good aioli, but I digress).
Oh, and I love me some guacamole. I inherited a great recipe.

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Korin Knife
I have a 5" nakiri from Calphalon that I absolutely love. I was shopping for a decent santoku (that was at least 8"), and on a whim I picked up the nakiri. It had just the right heft and balance, and it felt so good in my hand I couldn't not buy it.

Labor Day Giveaway: Tenderloin Filets and Cedar Grilling Planks
Just about anything: steak kebabs, brats, corn, pineapple, etc. I'm working on perfecting my hamburgers right now.
Hard Taco Shells: Yea or Nay?
The only time I'll eat a hard shelled taco is when I'm on a road trip and the best fast food is Taco Bell. The rest of the time, I either take a lightly fried corn tortilla or two corn tortillas that I seared briefly on a nonstick skillet.
So it's an almost whole-hearted nay.
As an aside, I went to Chevy's on a date once (it was her choice, and also the last time I went out with her) in San Francisco. Don't ask me why when there's so much better food around, but she wanted it. I ordered the tacos, and they offered me soft or hard shells. I asked for soft corn tortillas. She said they didn't have any, and that my options were hard corn or soft flour. So, I told her to go ask the kitchen. When my food came out, it was delicious authentic taco -- carne asada, onion, cilantro, and nothing else. It was easily the best thing I've ordered from Chevy's.
Do you like buffets...really?
I'm biased against buffets. My favorite Chinese restaurant when I was growing up added a lunch buffet when I was about 15. The quality of all of their food went downhill so much after that that they went out of business two years later - folks I knew who loved going there all complained how the food had changed coincident with the buffet. It was "tragic" enough that I decided not to eat at places that had buffets any more.
That being said, last year I went to what I was told was the best Indian food within 30 miles (possibly more). I went, and the group I was with insisted we get the buffet to try more things. It was a very underwhelming experience, and I have refused to go back. Last night, my wife had a girls' night out and they went there. She brought me back some (non-buffet) malai kofta, and it was the best I've had since I moved to this state. That place is back on my list of restaurants I want to eat at.
Do You Drink Soy Milk Over Other Milks?
When I was in high school, I had some gastrointestinal issues. We tried lactose-free diets, gluten-free, etc etc. I really disliked the soy milk. It wasn't until I realized the soy ice cream wouldn't melt, even if I left it on the counter for several hours, that I said nuts to that and went back to cow. It was a happy day.
Father's Day Giveaway: Win a Two-Pound Cowboy Chop
I love a prime rib, but that's also because I like horseradish. I really need to branch out.
Care to introduce yourself?
I'm a late-20s Californian accountant who just finished his master's. Oh, and I'm a newlywed, so be sure I'm going to mention my wife in every post. I am a menu whisperer and for some reason am always the last to order at a restaurant, at which point half the party changes their orders. I'm still learning to cook (according to me), and am the gourmet of the extended family (according to two SILs - one on each side). I can do almost anything Italian, am learning to grill, and have a knack for putting ingredients/flavors together. Ask me about latest creation, because it's all I can talk about for a week or so after I first cook it, whatever it is (currently fries with drizzled in bleu cheese sauce then hot chili oil, and red pepper flakes sprinkled on top).
Do You Have Any 'Once In A Wifetime' Recipes?
I mentioned this to my wife, and she said that fried spam was a "never in a wifetime" dish. She then told me if I ever even thought of cooking it (I haven't), good luck finding a new wife.
I've told her about a few dishes from my bachelor days (my infamous heart-attack biscuits, which are little dough balls rolled and then baked in a puddle of margarine and then topped with dark brown sugar, cinnamon and vanilla), expecting her to say I couldn't cook those either, and now we're having them for breakfast tomorrow. I love my wife.
Who amongst us, has the best pickiest eater story?
A note on the people faking allergies thing: I do that. I do it specifically because of a gut disorder that causes me to be violently ill if I have any sort of poultry. Case in point: I had one bite of a dish that was prepared using chicken broth and was violently ill for two weeks. The word "explosive" would be an appropriate description. So, rather than telling people that I have a severe intolerance similar to lactose intolerance, I just say I'm allergic. It's easier.
As far as pickiness, I've got quite a few stories. When I was 3 or 4, my dad opened a banana and saw that it was old and mushy. So he gave it to me. I haven't liked bananas since. I'll eat them, but it's not my first choice.
My SIL is in her late 30s and is the pickiest eater I've ever met. She will eat chicken alfredo, the neon orange mac and "cheese", hot dogs, chicken nuggets, and similar food. She could eat nothing but McDonalds for the rest of her life and be happy.
I should note, she says she can't stand chili. Well, my finest moment as a cook came when we had a family gathering I cooked for. I made a big ol' pot o' chili. I'd never made chili from scratch before, so I was excited how it would turn out. I loved it. My wife loved it. SIL? She said "well, I'll try it" because we had chili and bread and some veggie platters. She ladled herself up a teeny portion, ate it, and spent the rest of the meal trying to sneak back to the chili without anyone noticing so she could have some more but not lose her reputation as the pickiest eater alive.
tl;dr - Me: 1, SIL: 0
School Food we actually LIKE...
I remember junior high had a burrito bar. You bought the tortilla (about 12-14")and filled it from the bar. I've never particularly cared for burritos, but they had some meat you could add. And so I would have an ENORMOUS soft taco. Kind of tasty.

Searching for the Perfect Hangover Cure
Actually, medicine has a cure that works 100% of the time; that's why no real research has gone into the subject. The cure is simple: don't drink to the point where you'd get a hangover. Of the doctors I know, most say not to drink at all. Still, few of their patients listen to them.
What do you mean, you hate _________?!
Well, aside from the poultry allergy (that one sucks around Thanksgiving, let me tell you), beef tongue. Oh man, I had that once at a little taqueria where they didn't remove the taste buds. It was delicious until I hit the taste buds, and then I kind of felt like I was making out with my taco. Way disturbing.

I clicked on the Cinnamon Sugar Rugelach recipe and it took me to Jam Thumbprints. My wife is currently mocking me for this. Little help?
if you can choose a dish to represent your country
Would this be the national dish we're proud of or reluctantly have to admit? Because if it's the latter: I'd say the KFC double down. If the former: steak, cornbread, and chili.
What Do You Grab for a Midnight Snack?
I either fry up some tacos or raid my candy stash.
