12 Days of Christmas Beer: Great Divide Hibernation Ale

Pumpernickel! I was wondering what that was. +1 for old ales in winter.

DIY vs. Buy: Should I Make My Own Ginger Liqueur?

Not that it makes my accolade anywhere near as qualified, but I've been making liqueurs and other infused hooches at home for years now and it's wonderful to see someone write about it with the creativity, context, and tone that you do.

The way you approach this column is practically how it goes in my head whenever I decide to try making something new. It's almost like a conversation. I'm not alone!

That said, I haven't tried a chai infusion before (but have plenty of boozeless chai syrup experience). Future post?

Buttermilk Maple Gin Flip

A silky beaut', even if I did just use the ol' buttermilk out of milk, apple cider vinegar, and a bit of waiting trick.

Also great with earl grey gin!

Drinking the Bottom Shelf: Old Crow Bourbon

Living in a practically rye-less state, I can see the appeal of things like Old Crow, but the local pricing breakdown arbitrates Old Grandad as the go-to budget to my taste.

Dinner Tonight: Dry-Cooked Cabbage with Tofu and Peas

Holy moly. Made this with half sesame oil/half ghee, red cabbage, and a red fresno chili (they were outta serrano), and it knocked my socks off. Rice not necessary, but a spoonful of homemade yogurt afterwards sure made me happy. Beautiful recipe, Nick!

Time for a Drink: Bloody Mary

One glass to another sounds fine, but if the problem is frothy tomato juice, whatever happened to just stirring vs. shaking? And I mean in the shaker, not the glass in which you're serving the drink.

Meat Lite: Potato Crusted Sausage, Leek and Spinach Quiche

Made it tonight: very good! Ended up with a bit extra potato crust stuff, though, so I flattened it out, stuck it in the skillet on medium heat, and cracked an egg atop after flipping, because I suspected (rightly, it turned out) that the crust is basically just delicious, slightly thickened hash browns.
I'd recommend grating the mozzarella on the quiche, though, since it doesn't quite melt about that well when cubed. Thanks for the delicious recipe!

"And some rye whiskey?" That's an old-fashioned--and one made right, at that!
