Does Serious eats have a virus?

We run the ads for Serious Eats, and we're checking into what's happening. As dbcurrie says just above, one thing we've seen in the past is code that comes from a downloaded program and then makes your Web browser put different ads onto a page.

There was also a malicious advertiser at the NY Times last week who hid malware in an ad campaign. Here's their explanation, and a screenshot of the nasty ad: http://bit.ly/31OAw2. Are you seeing the same ad?

If you'll let us know here if you're seeing the same ad, and if you're seeing this problem on any other sites you visit, that'll be helpful as we track it down.

Thanks for reporting this and helping us fix it. We hate this stuff, especially when it's causing problems for our favorite Eaters.

Not digging the ad redirects

Dear Eaters: We're the new ad partner, and we owe you an apology.

We're here because we love what Ed, Alaina, Adam and the whole team do every day, and we share their passionate for making every visit to Serious Eats a wonderful one. You should leave the site entertained. Enlightened. Surprised. Maybe starving. But never irritated by ugly misbehaving ads that got through because we screwed up a setting on our ad server.

You deserve better. We're sorry that you didn't get it this morning.
