The "Perfect" Food

Not like these are particularly healthy options, but good BBQ beef brisket and a pizza from this place called Fricano's in Grand Haven, MI are perfect in my opinion!

For healthier perfection, a freshly picked tomato from a garden. Nothing beats that.

How 'bout them portions?

I live alone and I find it almost impossible to cook for one. I always end up making like 4 or 5 servings and having lots of leftovers which go bad a lot of times. Almost nothing except frozen dinners are made for one person.

Best Farmer's Market you've been to

@arm1970 - I've actually never been in the winter. I'd imagine that it wouldn't be as impressive then. If you go in May or June, especially on the weekend, it's always full of stands with a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. I've gotten some of the best peaches and strawberries I've ever eaten there. As for the seafood, while I've never bought any I've heard rave reviews from some people I work with. I know they have a seafood restaurant as well.

@Madelyn - I LOVE the Union Square Farmer's Market. I'm originally from that area. Only been a few times but it really sticks out in my mind.

Portland OR kicks New York's Ass!

I'm a native NYer and have always wanted to go to Portland. I've heard some great things about it before. This makes me want to go even more! I actually might have a chance soon, given one of my friends recently moved to Seattle and I hear it's not a bad drive from there.

What 'cha cooking this weekend? Freezer bound items here.

Cheddar walnut bread sounds great. I wish I knew how to make bread.

For me, I've just eaten whatever I could scrounge up from my fridge and freezer. I'm low on groceries and the weather has been miserable. Yesterday was frozen pizza and a salad for lunch. Today it'll probably be soup. This is definitely soup kind of weather where I am.

What time do you eat dinner?

@jazzinx... I also usually eat dinner around 5 to 5:30. Pretty much as soon as I walk in the door from work. I am always starving by then.

Then around 8 or so, I'll have a small snack of some kind.

Have you discovered any new amazing foods lately?

Brussel sprouts. I can only remember my parents making them once as a kid. I don't remember hating them, but we never had them again. I think because my brothers made such a big deal!

Fast forward like 20 years and I was at a friend's house this past Thanksgiving. She made this recipe here:

Since then, I cannot get enough of brussel sprouts!

I wouldn't give up eating ___, even if I was allergic

Dairy products would be so hard for me to give up. I can't imagine going without cheese, in particular!

Tomato products would be hard as well. Tomatoes are one of my absolute favorite foods ever. Have been since I was a kid.

Just Curious: What really starts your engine in the morning?

I'm trying to get in the habit of drinking tea every morning. I'm never that hungry in the morning and usually on weekends don't eat anything until at least noon or later.
Weekdays I do make myself eat breakfast. Usually yogurt mixed with either granola and fruit, or just fruit. On rare occasions, eggs.

Unseasonably warm weather food?

I always like to make some kind of fruit salad, pasta salad, other similar things.

Here's a good, unique salad recipe made with quinoa.
Quinoa and Black Bean Salad

Okay, so what's the deal with chocolate anyway?

I can't say I get any kind of high/rush from eating chocolate, although I do love it. Lately though, I've been leaning more towards vanilla or fruit stuff which is a big change for me.

I used to be addicted to dark chocolate. Then I got sick with a really bad cough and no cough suppressant would work, so I was researching natural remedies. I found some info that said extra dark chocolate was supposed to help because it has high levels of theobromine, which apparently acts as a cough suppressant. I was desperate so I bought and ate ridiculous amounts of the stuff. It actually did seem to help a bit. Two years later it still doesn't appeal to me anymore though.

Comfort Food

Definitely make sure to take care of yourself!!

In terms of comfort food that wouldn't be to labor intensive, Amy's frozen mac and cheese is one of my favorites. Easy enough to unwrap and stick in the oven.

I'm pretty hooked on Tazzo Berryblossom White Tea.
And ever since trying it last month at a restaurant, The Republic of Tea brand blackberry sage tea.
Another favorite is goji berry grean tea from Yogi Tea.
I usually let it steep for about 5 minutes and prefer it plain.

Bottled NYC Tap Water?

Yeah... Don't quite know how to respond to that one. But I guess you have to give the guy props for creative entrepreneurship.

I have to say, being from the NY area and having lived and traveled to many other parts of the country, straight out of the tap, NY does have the best tasting water.

Condiments hate them or love them?

I love them! They do make food a lot more interesting.
Heck, when I was a kid I used to love ketchup so much my best friend got me a bulk sized bottle of the stuff for my birthday one year! While I don't eat it now like I did when I was a kid, it's still one of my favorites.

What is your foolproof, fallback dessert?

I agree with redhead on the fruit cobbler. A friend of mine gave me a super easy recipe for it a few years back. I don't have it with me at the moment, but I think it only has about 5 ingredients tops.

I've made it several times when I've had friends over and it's a huge hit every time! Some have even started requesting it regularly.

Best Farmer's Market you've been to

I've always been a big fan of farmer's markets. There's something about being able to get food with that kind of freshness that can't be beat.

I've lived in North Carolina for 3 years now and have been really impressed by the State Farmer's Market they have in Raleigh. I've never seen one so big and comprehensive before! Such a wide variety of products and they even have a few restaurants on the grounds. Do any other states run their own farmer's markets? Where is your favorite one located and what makes it great?
