More to liver then just onions?

fry up some bacon until crisp, remove and saute the onions in a bit of the bacon fat. Remove the onions and fry up the liver. You can flour the liver slices for a crispy coating.
Yummm I think I'll pick up some liver tomorrow!

From Talk

Split Pea Soup!

Here it starts with a baked ham Sunday Dinner. You need that ham bone with lots of meat left on. I toss in some carrots and a potato. Simmer it until everything falls apart. I used to smooth it out in my blender but now I have an immersion blender. Love that little thing !!!!

From Talk

What strange things are in the door of your fridge?

a blue Skyy vodka bottle .. no vodka in it, just water. I use it for a rolling pin.

From Serious Eats

Do You Like Eating Pie Crust By Itself?

I think whoever said "maybe crust haters are used to store bought crusts and never had a scratch crust" might be onto something. Well-made scratch crust...OMG, nothing like it. And you KNOW that someone making a scratch crust would not waste such a labor of love on acky Sandra Lee canned filling.

From Talk

What strange things are in the door of your fridge?

@nightowl, are you suppossed to refrigerate tapioca? i have it in my pantry.

From Talk

My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal...

I also love Thanksgiving - it's my favorite holiday, hands down. My favorite food is Mama's dressing. She bakes cornbread separately, sautes onion and celery, breaks up the cornbread and adds the vegetables, chicken broth, and some of the drippings from the turkey pan and then bakes the mixture. Since it never goes inside the turkey, it's not stuffing, but dressing, and it is yummy!
I love how everybody talks about how cozy Thanksgiving is. I absolutely agree and I love the day after, too. Turkey sandwiches on sourdough bread - yum!

I'm really amazed at the amount of blogs that are found now and have enjoyed them a lot.But. that said, I usually go to a book for my recipes, especially for baking, thinking they have been developed, tried and tested by an "expert". I read Serious Eats every day and enjoy the content a lot.

Restauant revies - almost never.

Also, I've cooked for a lot of years and don't use recipes every day. I just cook. The blogs have given me some great ideas and a "jumping off'" place to see what comes out of the pan when I want a "different" taste.

I cook for one most of the time, but I really like a varied and tasty menu and work at getting proper nutrition as well as watching my "budget" and still eating something that tastes good.

A lot of my main dishes are predicated on the protein that is on special that week. For example. pork shoulder is on special this week, so a roast will come home and be "sized down" to satisfy several meals without eating the same thing for several days. The freezer is a good friend, but I don't cook ahead and freeze. Too may recipes " serve six" and they won't work for me.

1. Everyday. I have it set up in Google Reader so I just get a steady feed.
2. See #1.
3. There's a variety of types of recipes. I like the forum so that I can ask questions without feeling like a complete doofus.
4. I use cookbooks, I don't read them the same way I would read a book. I like blogs because people will usually post their process shots and step by step descriptions along with feedback or what they would/did change.
5. Great photos. I think end product pictures are great, but it's the process shots that are super helpful. I also like the product testing that sites do (SE has done it a few times, ATK and Cooks have product comparisons).

From Talk

Calling All Foodies

1. How often do you visit food-related websites (blogs, Yelp, etc.)?
Daily, usually a couple of times per day, depending on the day.

2. In particular, how often do you visit Serious Eats?
Once or twice per day.

3. What is it about Serious Eats that attracts you?
Lots of fun updates, and a great mix of recipes, food news, restaurant reviews, and user forums. And lots of yummy pictures!

4. Do you prefer reading cookbooks/restaurant reviews or cooking blogs/Internet reviews? Why?
I love both, but I read food blogs more often. Cookbooks are beautiful, but I usually only use them when I'm looking for something specific to cook. Food blogs are easy to use if I'm hunting for a use for a specific ingredient, or just to browse. I bookmark recipes that I may want to cook in the future, or just enjoy looking through yummy things. I generally don't read restaurant reviews, unless a certain dish looks particularly yummy or I'm looking for a specific place/

5. What else do you look for in the Internet food community aside from recipes and reviews?
Friendly users, helpful comments, fun things to browse, pretty pictures!

What Jerzee said and:

1) daily - some sites a couple of times a week, some several times a day

2) several times a day - probably an hour a day

3) I like the variety of points of view, the challenge to try new things, input from other countries, the interaction with others.

4) Seldom read reviews anywhere.

5) friendly conversation about things I love. This is the food site with the most engaging community that I've found. I've learned things and been able to share things I know.

My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal...

i love everything about Thanksgiving... maybe because I was born on a Thanksgiving day a few years ago ;) and it marks the start of Xmas season... it's sucha happy time for me, always.

I used to love the whole menu combination. And would most look forward eating the same menu a few times via the leftovers. and even now that I am vegetarian, I think my favorite part are the sweet potatoes/yams... my mom used to make them with marshmallows on top. YUMMM.

From Talk

My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal...

Stuffing... I may only eat it 1-2 other times the entire year.... but I eat my quota and then some on thanksgiving.

From Serious Eats

Do You Like Eating Pie Crust By Itself?

I agree that a higher crust-to-fruit ratio is preferable with fruit pies. The filling is often too sweet and I like a good thick crust to balance it.

From Talk

My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal...

My favorite part of Thanksgiving is actually the day after. It's incredible how many cool recipes there are for leftovers.

So I spend Thanksgiving morning cooking - in the afternoon it's family time with a mid afternoon dinner.

Then on Friday it's a whole new ballgame with everything from Turkey enchiladas, soup and chili's to Turkey nachos, turkey stuffed peppers, turkey omelets etc. etc....we feast all weekend!

Then try to loose some weight so we can do it again over Xmas.

Love the holiday season!

My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal...

I emigrated from the US ten years ago, so it's been a while since I celebrated Thanksgiving. Also, we don't eat poultry (we keep chickens as pets). But a good bread, sausage and onion stuffing with an ale gravy is hard to beat. And of course mashed potatoes...I put them up there with the omelette and scrambled eggs as something every good cook should be able to do well.

Sweet potato pie, topped with pecans, brown sugar and butter, and caramelised. An apple pie with a lattice top. Broccoli baked with a sharp cheese sauce.

From Talk

family. For food it's the stuffing, with gravy and whole cranberry sauce.

My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal...

Okay, Traveller, you got me on this one...turkey and ketchup? Every now and then I get a craving for steak and ketchup or scrambled eggs and ketchup, but I never thought of putting turkey and ketchup together. Is it really that good?

From Talk

My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal...

I'm sure I'll take flack for this ... but everything but the turkey. A forkful of mashed potatoes, corn, stuffing, and cranberry sauce all topped off with turkey graving. Heaven.

From Talk

My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal...

The day after. I've got a clean house, turkey sandwiches on the menu, and the carcass is simmering in the crockpot making me hungry all over again.

From Talk

My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal...

EVERYTHING. It all just feels cozy. I think we should start a movement to have Thanksgiving 3 or 4 times a year. I feel like I have enough to be thankful for to spread it out over a few days.

From Talk

My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal...

My favorite part of the meal: my family.

Favorite dish: Um. Well, it's not the kimchi that always magically ends up between my mother and I....probably the twice baked potatoes..mmmmm

From Talk

My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal...

It's a toss up between gravy and desert. Desert is always a pumpkin pie and a crumb topped apple pie.

From Talk

My favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal...

My favorite part is the stuffing. Love Love Love it. With a little bit of gravy on top its perfection

From Serious Eats

Do You Like Eating Pie Crust By Itself?

I loooooooove pie crust unplugged, especially hot, with a glass of ice cold (whole) milk. I usually make a two crust recipe even if I just need one for a pie so I can have a special treat.
