Photo of the Day: 1957 Neon Dunkin' Donuts Sign Being Dismantled
I think Lancaster, PA, my hometown, boasts some of the last original golden arches. You may be able to find a shot of them on flickr.

Bummer! Makes me wonder when the old-school Arby's signs (the big ass cowboy hats!) will start to disappear. There is one near me and I absolutely love it.
long live neon!!!
This reminds me of the neon sign cemetary in Las Vegas. All the old hotel and casino signs go to die here and if you can take the tour please do. Whenever I see one of these classic neon creations come down it saddens me a little. They are VERY costly to run and maintain. But it's just another part of my past that's disappearing. (Now I'm so fahrklempt I think I'll go to Dunkin Donuts!!)
It should go to the Smithsonian, I think. I love neon signs. When we were in Great Falls, MT a couple of summers ago a lot of places still had their old neon signs. It was great. I hate to see things like this disappear, but I've read they're very expensive to run.
I wonder where the old one will end up? I agree it is very sad to see pieces like this taken down.
I'm very sad to read about this. The new sign is depressing.
It really was a landmark in Brighton.... I lived in Brighton for years and now live just across the river in Watertown... I'm very sad to see it go. :(
The sign they've replaced it with is simply depressing:
