I was seriously just thinking that this should get written up for date night. Its such a great place, surprisingly inexpensive when you tally it all up, and really wonderful if you're vegetarian or vegan.

Ice Cream Sunday at the New Amsterdam Market

Vandaag in the East Village: So Much More Than a Gin Bar

Vandaag, in a word, is refreshing. Refreshing to navigate an East Village dining room without climbing over chairs or toppling a busboy. To find entrées and appetizers, not a roster of small plates of heritage pork belly and bacon-fried everything. To be greeted warmly at a young downtown restaurant. And to find a menu that doesn't seem derivative—either of a single culinary tradition or of current restaurant standards. It's hard to compare Vandaag to another restaurant in New York right now. More
