The most awesome deep dish in Chicago?
"The Lou" -- absolutely delicious.
I think you can guess where that's from...
5 dozen eggs in the house
Make an old fashioned pound cake! I have a recipe that uses half a dozen at a time...
Cook the Book: 'Mrs. Rowe's Little Book of Southern Pies'
Best: my first secret-family-recipe vanilla pound cake. Perfect. Ditto with grandma's pie crust, those always turn out flakey and delicious.
Worst: I haven't even dared try my mom's sugar cream pie and I'm putting it here. I've never seen anyone pull it off on the first go-around; it will probably be a runny mess.
(Hmmm... I'm starting to think maybe it's not my baking prowess but the generations of women who perfected these recipes?)

Share with your co-workers! I can honestly say that it would be a great treat if someone brought fresh fruit instead of cookies and unhealthy snacks to my office...

Serious Cheese: What Happens When a Curd Nerd Becomes Lactose Intolerant?
Take mepolo's advice; check out the gall bladder.
Easter Dinner Desserts?
I'm either doing a triple-layer carrot cake or a simple pound cake with fresh strawberries and homemade ice cream...
Serious Cheese: What Happens When a Curd Nerd Becomes Lactose Intolerant?
Thought for years I was lactose intolerant. Then was prescribed a Z-pack antibiotic, now i can digest dairy!!!!!! Apparently something was blocking the enzyme needed to digest dairy & the antibiotic killed it. But just recently had the stomach flu, was still sick after 2 weeks. Doc said the dairy products were FEEDING the BAD BACTERIA. Said no dairy for 2 weeks, then start adding back in PROBIOTICS (Activia, ect....) for 2 weeks then add regular dairy back in. Still in the no dairy stage, will let you know if it works. Cross your fingers!!!! lol Found this site looking for cheese low in lactose, Thank you so much for a wealth of info everyone!!!!

I suggest sitting down to a viewing of Cool Hand Luke and see if you get inspired.

Try a Kuku (www.chow.com/recipes/11052)! The first time I ever say a recipe for one was in a vegetarian cookbook and I've though of making one ever since. I haven't since I'm not a frittata kind of girl. But baked eggs is my fave way to have them...even something as easy as eggs in hell (hot tomato sauce).
Or you could always make angel food cake and hollandaise sauce with the leftover yolks :)

You could do the Chinese egg and tomato stir fry thing too...

Try Jilbour: an Armenian Egg Stew. Here is a simple recipe.
1 pound of onions
1/4 pound of butter
dried mint leaves (dash)
1 pound fresh or 1 large can of tomatoes
eggs to suit
salt & pepper to taste
Method
Cook onions and butter together until lightly browned. Add mint leaf, tomatoes and a little water. Bring to simmer and then crack in as many eggs as you want in the stew poaching same until yolk is cooked. Serve immediately with radishes!
We usually add other veggies too like green pepper with the onions. We also use a lot more butter, and a dozen eggs in this is NOTHING. Just don't stir after you add the eggs.

I normally go through the most eggs when I make Yorkshire puddings or if I'm making breakfast burritos in large batches to freeze.

@CJ: Hahahah! I signed on this morning and saw the "Eggs, eggs, eggs" post and said to myself.. "wait... did I name my thread that???" and was afraid I'd had a total mental lapse.
:)

The most awesome deep dish in Chicago?
Totally agree with Daniel, there's no reason to run out to Lincolnwood when you have several locations in the city. It's quite inconvenient to get out there and there really isn't anything to see.

@joylissa: For most of the actual city, particularly the sections that tourists frequent, public transportation is great and easy to use. It's not as good as New York, but better than any other American city I know of. Lincolnwood is outside the city and either a long bus ride or a very pricey cab ride. If you're staying downtown, you can go to the Lou Malnati's in River North, which I haven't been to in a few years but never disappointed me, or the new one in the South Loop.

The most awesome deep dish in Chicago?
I agree, the Lincolnwood loation is the best. For transportation, chicago has pretty good public transportation and PACE buses are very reliable.

@Daniel: What's the best way to get around all the different chicago areas like Lincolnwood and all the many other locations....it's just me and my friend going to visit and we dont know anybody so do we just rely on taxi's? Are they gonna break our pockets having to use them for 4 days straight? We would like to have money left to eat !!!! :D

I just posted these for another persons eggstravaganza - YUM! Have fun!

Angel food cake from scratch!
Pickle them!
Egg salad!
Roast them!
Make a variety of muffins, freeze and grab as needed!
Souffle!
Strata!
Slice on to a sammy!
Tapioca pudding!
If you separate the yellow's, beat them a bit, add to an ice cube tray and freeze for later!

@joylissa: Lou Malnati's is the one place I recommend that visitors try. I would warn you to avoid the Lincoln Park/Lakeview location if you can. I've had three consecutive less than great experiences there. In the past month, I've been to the original location in Lincolnwood and the location in Wicker Park (take out and delivery only) and both produced the traditional exceptional pies.

I'm so excited that everybody agrees on one place...that makes it really easy for me.
Lou Malnati's here I come!
now i just have to figure out which one to go to :P
Thanks guys

You could make some angel food cake, sponge cake, macarons, meringues (I second all the above!), and make LOTS of lemon curd or custard (which you can use to fill the previously mentioned Boston Cream Pie, that also requires some eggs in the making). The great chain of using eggs!
(I'd probably use them in making pancakes or waffles every day, to be honest).
Or make 5 "quesillos" (like a flan, or custard) with those eggs.
