My favorite edible gift to give is ______

I love giving people food - there's a particular joy in it, especially when it's something thoughtful and special. I'd like to try and expand the range of gifts I can give - any good ideas or favorites? I will say, I just made matzo brittle and gave it as a gift for Passover. It was so tasty and looked beautiful!

Ed's Truffled Popcorn

I also made popcorn with white truffle oil for the Superbowl. It was so delicious, none of us could stop eating it! It made me think flavoring your own popcorn would be a great way to do an easy snack for a party or anytime. I'm thinking of trying sage popcorn, and curry popcorn. What are some good ideas for other popcorn flavors?

Molasses in December

I want to make some molasses crinkles for Christmas (I love the spice). Right now I only have blackstrap molasses and virtually every recipe that calls for molasses specifies "not robust/blackstrap." Does anyone know if I can substitute it without a problem? Also, do you have any favorite uses/recipes for this sweetener?

Ideas for ground pork?

There's a really great sustainable hog farm near me and I've tried several of their cuts of meat (the bacon is so good!). This week, I bought ground pork. I'm just re-incorporating meat into my diet after a few years of vegetarianism - does anyone have any delicious ideas for what to do with ground pork?

Pureed and really soft food...

Due to an accident while riding my bike on Monday, I now have a fracture in the bone above my teeth. It's really uncomfortable to chew, but I'm getting sick of and depressed by the same soup and ice cream. I think it would make the rest of the week more fun if I could still enjoy being in my kitchen and make something I can actually eat. Everyone always has great recipes, how about some fun ideas for food my injured mouth can handle?

SE users: please introduce yourselves.

Oh I love these. Hungrygrl and Susquehanna, I'm another fellow Pittsburgher. I'm 23, in graduate school for physical therapy. Secretly though, I organize my pantry and daydream about what I'll make for dinner when I should be studying. It just makes me so happy to be in the kitchen.

Sourdough starter

I"m so glad someone asked, because I was thinking the same thing - how do I get a starter? My question is this: has anyone who has made one successfully compared it with an old one from somebody else? I've heard that the flavor is better. It is always a better idea to get a portion of an old starter?

Harissa: What do you do with it?

I was sitting in class yesterday and I realized that I have some ground pork in the freeze. How good would pork burgers be filled with harissa, onions, and garlic?

Signature ingredient -- and is it a flaw or fav?

Parsley. I mean, it is good and all, but it's ridiculous how much I put it in my food. Already green salad? Parsley, check. Yogurt? check. The only line I draw is my morning oatmeal :)

Cook the Book: 'Mario Batali Italian Grill'

My favorite is a combination of a mop made out of olive oil, s&p, jalepeno peppers and two dashes of balsamic vinegar on top of a spice mix of dried ancho chilis, garlic powder and s&p. Awesome on a flank steak!
