New York City Wine and Food Festival: Ticket Giveaway, 'Breakfast of Champions'
Espresso w/Guiness, homefries and bacon!
Grape Drink/Fruit Punch @ pizza places in NYC
You know as an outsider I was skeptical how these red and purple drinks could possibly be any different than that which you'd get at a gas station- but my last roommate set me straigh. Ours was at Elegante Pizzeria in Bay Ridge on 5th and 69th. I think that Lenny's on 5th and Prospect in Park Slope also has the drink but have never had it there.
Dear AHT: 'You Guys Suck'
I enjoy Damon's contributions from Cali, and whenever I leave NYC I check here for burger rec's abroad; in sum, more reviews from vetted and knowledgeable contributors would be nice.

Alan Richman Names Top 25 Pizzas in the U.S.
Amen re: American imperialism in Pizzaland. I am not ashamed to admit that during my time in Italy all I wanted was a pizza with everything on it (and not speck or proscuitto or quattro formaggi). You can imagine my disappointment when I spotted a Pizza Hut while in Germany only to find out that it too had been bastardized for local tastes.
We rock pizza better, harder and stronger than anyone else!
Serious Cheese: Goat Cheese as a Marker of Gentrification
I measure the mainstreaming of a food product against McDonald's, like when they introduced "chipotle" barbecue sauce, Angus burgers and most recently the "gourmet" products of the McCafe line.
That said, only since moving to Sunset Park did I come to the realization that demographics define what is available in grocery stores. I thought I had gone crazy the first few weeks after I stumbled into multiple stores that seemed to not know of the glorious pork products available to the greater population, and when I tried baking I had to go to Target to get toffee bits- toffee bits!
And now I too gauge my apartment's worth based on its proximity to a Fairway or comparable supermarket (subway access be damned).
What Do You Think of Dijon on Burgers?
Isn't more important that we avoid eating the same mustard Osama bin Laden eats, and eat more of what Jesus eats (I think he's a yellow mustard guy).

Dear AHT: 'Behold the Nexus'
See? Mutant foods get no love. Foodists make me sad for the culinary world. This type of daring innovation is what we need to end lunchtime boredom and droll dinners.
'Top Chef' Contestant Fabio Viviani Spokesman for New Frozen Pizza Line
Frozen pizza in Europe is a joke- they never took it seriously to begin with. This is one area (however sad a commentary it is) that American businesses definitely have the upperhand.
That said, I have not tried this specific brand. Maybe they're the outlier?

Thinking of Making Some Changes to Slice Twitter; Would Like Your Input
Why not setup @SliceReaders or @SliceIntel or, better, a local @SliceNYC and so forth (@SliceATL, @SlicePhilly, @SliceSanFran...)? The possibilities are countless, and then we can retain the integrity of the mother tweet, @Slice while her wild children run amok of the web!
Mellow Mushroom: An Unlikely Southern Tradition
Why is there so little recognition of the fact that New York and Chicago- "authentic"- styles of pizza are actually the exception to the rule? As a Midwesterner who grew up on Pizza Hut and Papa Johns and CiCi's and Domino's and Li'L Ceasar's and a plethora of local joints, I think New York and Chicago (and California to a lesser degree) need to understand that their style of pizza is no better than the way they speak English is better than the way they speak it elsewhere.
That said, Mellow Mushroom is a delicious and standout example of the "National" style of pizza, embodied by the inclusion of quality (but accessible) meats, veggies, cheeses on hearty sauce and a bread thick enough to pick up and eat without having to be folded (but pliable enough to do so if desireable).
My only beef with them is the blending of California-style toppings (Jamaican jerked chicken) with National-style pizza (red sauce and mozz). While the regional styles of pizza may peacefully exist side by side, breeding them (such as piling toppings on a flimsy New York crust) just results of an icky mess that is neither tasty nor enjoyable to eat.
Josh Ozersky on 'Nightline': 'Fancy Burgers Are Cheaper Than Pizza'
Wait a second- am I missing something here? The Black Label burger is delicious and high class- true- but I can assure you a whole meal it does not make. You'll need fries and a drink with that, bringing your total closer to $18 after tax. And that doesn't even include cheese or bacon on the burger!

Ribeyes are what steak lovers love. I love pork though so my favorite cut would be the porterhouse.
Dear AHT: The Unrequited Love of Mutant Foods: Cheeseburger Combos
@Channa: you will find these snacks fifteen paces north of the 42nd Street entrance to the unsightly PA Bus Terminal; make a left of 9 gilderblocks and step on the blue sidewalk panel three times while clucking like an Ecuadorian rooster to reveal a 7/11 wherein they can be bartered for (but cash works best)
@Anyone who liked them: I never said these were good- they're not- and you have foolishly revealed to all AHT readers your disgusting habit of lighting sticks on fire and extinguishing them on your tongue; shame on you
@Anyone who tried them: provided Karma is not laid off in the coming months I'm certain she will repay you with an appropriately insubstantial reward
Despite my best efforts, I was unable to get the Cheeseburger Combos to mate with the McDonald's french fries and large Coke, even in the presence of Barry White's sexually inviting voice. Our search for that elusive Cheeseburger Combo Combos continues...

Sam's, a Cobble Hill Fixture Long on Character
Visited 8/3/08; the whole meal took about an hour and a half (we ate the pizza during the last half hour). True to form it was delicious, and the secret to passing the time here would be to "sample" (rather than "peruse") the beer and wine menu.
My suggestion: get a Manhattan, delicious and stiff, really helps build up the appetite. Then go home and watch "Mad Men" to complete your time trip to the 1960's!
