Good (basic) cooking classes in NYC?
I guess that is too late now but may be for the future I would recommend The Wise Cook. They are in Upper West Side, in Manhttan and offers all kind of fun, easy and healthy menus.
This is what my husband offered me for christmas: a private cooking class with their French chef. She was really patient with us and explained us everything in details, giving us great tips!
Have a look at their website www.thewisecook.com
As they do Cook Dating as well, one of my friend even met her lover thanks to them!

This is what I do with my kids and it works all the time: mix all your food in a puree.
For example: lots of broccolis and carrots, one medium size potato, a fillet of fish (cooked in the oven with no fat!), 1 TBSP olive olive, little salt and pepper. Mix everything together, your son will not realise what he is eating and will LOVE it!
