Worst foodie gift ever?

One of those "Newly Weds' First Cookbook"s. Not exactly the type of cookbook I would want or need, and about 15 years too late to be my first cookbook. Honestly, these things are such scams. Still, it was a nice thought.

Do You Ever Eat Raw Eggs?

My grandparents used to eat raw eggs and raw meat frequently, until they got salmonella from doing so. I rarely even eat raw cookie dough, but I always use cage free eggs, which at least guarantees that the hens are able to walk around. If I could get my eggs from a small family farm, the way my parents do, I would't worry about salmonella at all.

-@lemonfair, I always wondered how likely it is you that would get a bad egg in that situation. However, it certainly makes shell removal easier, so I keep on cracking eggs in a separate bowl.

The Varying Food Preferences of Conservatives and Liberals

I am pretty sure that this type of thing has more to do with geography than anything. Furthermore, the people replying to this study had to find Hunch and give them this information, so it's not really representative of the population. Most of the people who took the survey were probably younger, upper to middle class, and technologically savvy. That's the majority of people who would take a survey like this online. In short, it's a very poor study, and probably reflects the overwhelming food and political preferences of people with time to waste taking online surveys--college students.

Alton Brown Says No to Stuffing the Turkey

In my experience, Thanksgiving turkey made the typical way is always over cooked--probably because of the stuffing technique. Until we started following Alton Brown's directions for making a turkey, it always required tons of gravy. Now the white meat is moist and flavorful, and the pan of stuffing is perfectly delicious! Don't knock it until you've tried it--maybe experiment another day of the year and see how you like it.

I enjoy a good muffin "stump". It's a nice contrast from the crispier top. Muffin sections should be loved equally!

Can Pumpkin Beer Be Serious Beer?

My favorite pumpkin-flavored beer is the Saranac Pumpkin Ale from Matt Brewing Company in Utica, NY. It has a lot of pumpkin pie spices, but it is a full-bodied ale with a distinctive hops flavor that is not overpowering. It goes well with quality Mexican food.
