I can only attest to the pie's on the West Coast of The Mitten, as a life-long resident:
The Lakeshore is dominated by Fricano's (a few locations including Grand Haven and Holland). Clover Bar (Grand Haven) and Mr. Scribbs (Muskegon area) come close.
My time in Grand Rapids was spent drinking craft brews and noshing on the pie's at Sazerac Lounge in the northside Creston neighborhood of GR. These pizza's have a cult following for a reason. Someone in that kitchen knows what they are doing. A must try if you find yourself in G-Rap.
@kazseta - Bilbo's is still banging out "pizza in a pan" in Kalamazoo. But the most intriguing pie in Kzoo comes from Sarkozy Bakery. It is small (maybe 9") and pricey (around $5-6) but cooked to perfection in the most unique oven I've laid eyes on. The pizzaiolo's utilize the 2stone Pizza Pro seen here:
