Easter Brunch, Columbus Ohio

Northstar Cafe - one located in Short North, on high street, one closer to Clintonville/Beechwold, also on high street. They stop serving brunch at 11 tho and close at 3 on Easter Sunday.

Happy Food Stories!

My nephew is 6, and a notoriously picky eater. (his sister is worse tho) However, he LOVES the fried egg sandwiches that i make him. Mine are the only ones he will eat. Its probably just a silly 6 year old thing but it makes me happy :)

Jamie Oliver - Taking On Obese America?

wow I didn't realize I was going to start such a hot topic.

There are people who are unhealthy because yes, they choose to be. And there are people who are unhealthy because they don't know better. I've volunteered in inner city programs and its true, many of the kids didnt know the names of many vegetables and fruits. It happens.

I think he is at least trying to make a difference and that is what counts. His programs in the UK have done very well and I think its awesome that he is at least trying to do something. Better than what our own government is doing for school lunches and nutrition. At least so far.

Because of Serious Eats I _______

..realized that food and nutrition have always been my passion and i'm now a Nutrition major.
...became more convinced that I must travel more.

What tomato varieties are you growing this year?

Purple Cherokee tomatoes - hands down the best tomatoes ever. I can barely stand to eat store bought ones after a whole summer of delicious Purple cherokees. Definitely try them if you havent yet.

First Drink for a 21-Year-Old?

Anything with Bailey's will be sweet. If you are going to do shots, do a Buttery Nipple - Bailey's + butterscotch schnapps and Peppermint Patty - squirt chocolate syrup in your mouth and take a shot of peppermint schnapps & swish it around - tastes like a peppermint patty.
Pineapple Upside Down Cake - pineapple juice, coconut rum, & grenadine syrup. delicious!

Have Fun!

Interesting uses for farina ("cream of wheat")?

some times we fry it up into patties when we have extra left over. but my favorite way to eat it is with a poached egg mixed it, very creamy and a different take than usually eating it sweetened

Songs About Food

oh my gosh! you guys are awesome!! I literally spent an hour youtubing most of the songs you guys posted! great stuff!

i love the line "dont cheat on me with bacon" :)

Spices and Oils - Choose One of Each

Olive Oil, the good stuff!

and probably an italian seasoning blend.

What Are the Must-Eats in Your City?

Columbus, OH - I would say the North Market. The food is good and there is something for everyone. Plus, Jeni's ice cream is awesome!

Foodies: Who or What is Responsible?

delicious purple cherokee tomatoes, fresh from the garden, a bit of s&p... after eating this almost everyday this past summer, i realized that i wanted to keep eating like this always.... its what made me change my major to nutrition & dietetics.

but i have always loved food, my mom is a great amazing cook.

Four Guests for Dinner

@buffy i agree with the David Boreanaz! do you watch the show Bones? love him in it!

1. Julia Child - she seems like such a friendly, loving person to meet and enjoy a meal with.
2. Alton Brown - He seems like he would be the funny uncle/grandpa type
3. My BFF, whom i shall call L - she loves good food as much as Idoo, and we would have a grand time.

Scrambing...and not eggs. Dinner 1/23

I love the "What's For Dinner?" posts! they always make me hungry and give me great ideas! keep them coming!

dinner for me was a burrito from Chipotle :)

Introduce Yourself!

I'm a former lurker - made this account just for this post! i've been lurking for about 3 ish years. I'm 20, and also live in Columbus, OH! I'm pretty excited to see so many buckeyes on here, i always assumed it was all ppl from NYC or East Coast. I'm totally in for a Columbus SE meet-up!

I'm a sophomore at Ohio State, and partially due to this website and many many hours of reading food blogs, in the fall I will be starting the Nutrition/Dietetics program. I can't wait!

(I also the North Market, Pastaria Seconda is utterly amazing)

I'm a sucker for pretty much any thing with carbs, pasta, bread, potatoes. I'm the second oldest of 5 kids and my mom always cooked homemade meals for us, and always tried to introduce us to new things.

I sometimes feel a little out of place here, being that I love a good Brie or duck liver as much as the next person, but I still like canned ravioli, jarred olives, and spaghettios.

Jamie Oliver - Taking On Obese America?

I'm sure you have all seen the commercials for his new show on ABC, where he takes on the fattest city in America, in an attempt to help them become healthier. What do you guys think of this? Do you think we need more programs like this? He already has several great programs in the UK that seem to be working well. I personally feel that the more help the better. A lot of people are unhealthy simple because they are uneducated about food.

Cold Pizza - Yes or No?

One of my favorite things to eat is cold pizza for breakfast. I can eat pizza at any temperature. But one of my friends always has to warm it up, and refuses to eat it cold. Personally I sometimes like cold pizza better. There are a few things I wont eat cold tho, such as mashed potatoes, meatloaf, and macaroni & cheese. I know people who eat all of these cold. So guys, what foods will you only eat at one temperature? And cold pizza - breakfast of champions or disgusting?

Songs About Food

I was thinking about songs that reference food or restaurants, and I was just wondering what food related songs are your favorites? Here are some that come to mind:

Animal Crackers - Shirley Temple
Alice's Restaurant - Arlo Guthrie
The Worst Pies In London - from Sweeney Todd

Jarred Roasted Red Peppers - Oil vs Water?

I recently discovered that I love Roasted Red Peppers. We had a jar in the fridge and I have been putting them on everything. I was just curious, which do you prefer, those packed in oil or in water? The ones I had were packed in water and were delicious, but maybe oil packed ones have more flavor? I dont know. Anything else that is better in oil or water? Thanks!
