What Was Your Favorite School Cafeteria Food?

I used to like the square pizza slices, insanely bready but pretty good if you got one from the edge of the pan.

We also used to have really crappy hot dogs, that I always claimed tasted slightly floral, almost like rose flavored pork. But they tasted fine as long as you got them coated with grilled onions.

I love this place. Had many hangover curing burgers there.
A good simple diner burger, and great chicken noodle soup to boot!

Hamburger Sauce in Iceland

This stuff is popular in the UK,
it is a bit like a vinegary thin thousand island sauce. It is always slathered onto kebab shop burgers and eaten almost exclusively by drunk people.

I know Heinz have a supermarket version of the sauce in English supermarkets... I stopped letting the stuff anywhere near me quite a long time ago, as I saw that the stuff turns into an almost clear jelly/resin if it is left out of its bottle for too long. FOUL.
(Drunken student apartment kitchens, covered in kebab packaging proved this)

In London, Cheeky Pete's Oversized Burger Falls Short of Expectations

Hello AHT, I have been checking out this site for a while now, I am from London and have been noticing the amount of London based burger reviews and I had to interject.
I have eaten enough burgers in the US to have a good idea of what I like from a cheeseburger! Having sampled In-n-out, five guys, joe juniors, veselka, fatburger, corner bistro and even whitecastle. (i am a big fan of joe juniors and in-n-out)
Now back to London, by far the best burger available in the big smoke is from Joe Allen's (they have a NYC branch as well)... Here are my reasons. (I order the medium rare cheeseburger that is closer to a US medium, and the very decent fries)

It is not run by food artist maniacs.
they cook the burger to order.
great meat to bun ratio.
Beef is unpeppered or very minimally (very important as all uk burgers basically taste like black pepper!)
great brioche bun.
only toppings are white onions and pickles.
they use a light cheddar cheese that works wonderfully well (and i'm a yellow american cheese purist!)
they have been making burgers since the 70's.

All in all I have enjoyed it every time I have ordered it (about twice a year since I was a kid!)
It is not on the menu so you have to ask for it.
It is the perfect remedy to the endless stupid "gourmet" burger places in London winning endless awards because no Brit knows what to compare it to! (sorry it's true and I was born here).
