United States of Pizza: Michigan

Ann Arbor's 2 best are Original Cottage Inn (my mother had her first ever pizza there as a student back in the early 1950's!) and Pizza House.

And if you are ever in the UP, you must try the pizza at Zorba's in Sault Ste. Marie! Really, really good. They also make terrific gyros. We always eat there at least once whenever we're up visiting my mother.

Cook the Book: 'The Frankies Spuntino Kitchen Companion & Cooking Manual'

Garden tomatoes and basil, mixed with garlic, pepper, pecorino romano, red onion and tossed with penne. It has to be fresh garden tomatoes and basil, tho.

The rest of the year, it would be anything made by Chef Isabella at Ann Arbor's Paesano's!

Cook the Book: Pumpkin Baking

Yeasted pumpkin rolls... I make these every Thanksgiving. In addition to pumpkin, they have maple syrup (the real thing, of course, and I use Michigan syrup from the Upper Penninsula) and some grated orange peel. They even look like little pumpkins!

Chicago - there for 3 days. Where do I eat?

I recommend lunch at Ralph Lauren's -- it's located a couple doors from the American Girl store (just look for moms and girls carrying those distinctive red shopping bags!). I had the most marvelous club sandwich there last summer. Really worth it! The Weber Grill restaurant is fab and loads of fun. Google them for a menu.
