Cook the Book: 'The Vegetarian Option'

As summer approaches I long for a huge platter with a huge assortment of beautiful vegetables from the farmers market - fresh tomatoes, grilled potatoes, marinated peppers, young peas... Can't wait!

Vegetarian cookbook recommendations?

Blech. I am a strict vegetarian and would love it if Moosewood and its ilk would be banished from kitchens across the country. Bland and boring.

Peter Berley, Jack Bishop, Debra Madison have all produced beautiful cookbooks with innovative, exciting recipes. I also love 660 Curries - while not entirely vegetarian, about 75% of the recipes are meat-free and with 660 recipes that's a lot.

Cook the Book: '660 Curries' by Raghavan Iyer

My first encounter with Indian curry was a little awkward. We were shy and just kept eyeing each other from across the room. I made my way over to his bowl and introduced myself to him and his friends, chutney, yogurt, chat, and mixed pickle. Taken by his complex textures and worldly influences, I was almost immediately smitten. I have to admit I went home with him that night. It was that first taste that drew me in.
