French in a Flash: Sweet Vanilla Quiche

Oh My Gosh that looks good! I love custard pie and there is a French bakery at the beach we visit every year (Mon Delice in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.,) and they have something called French Cheesecake that is dense and delicious like the pie you made. Thanks for sharing! I am making this!

Cooking Channel, Anyone?

When I watched it seemed like a lot of BBC Food programming...Easy Indian and Easy French don't seem like they're new or made for Cooking Channel. But, still fun to see what is coming up and to have another channel to flip to!

The Food Lab: In Search of the Best Oven-Fried Buffalo Wings

Thanks for the step-by-step. And, I also wanted to say that you do a great job of writing these up. You keep the descriptions lively, there is a touch of humor here and there, and you keep the science of cooking from having any yawn factor. Excellent writing!

Cook the Book: Crème Brûlée

Caroline, where did you purchase the foil custard cups? We can't get them in my area and I'd like to order some online. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

My Mother was a _____ Cook.

was a musician not a cook...she'd throw a frozen hunk of beef in a pot with a can of cream of mushroom and a packet of french onion soup mix to simmer while she taught piano lessons. When dad arrived home and asked us kids what was for dinner, our response would be, "Chewy beef." This is possibly the reason I'm a good cook.

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Southside Market Sausage

Our house...is a very, very, very fine house...with three smokers in the yard, life used to be so hard...hahaha, but definitely my backyard/bbq deck.

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Zingerman's Praise the Lard Gift Box

I attended a poly-tech school (which means that we had an agricultural school, and some farmers/ranchers-to-be learning their trade, and a great vet school--plus engineering and a whole lot more) and there was an aggie frat that had a pig roast that was unbelievable. A month of so before the party, those boys would get a lot of attention from girls trying to line up invitations to this party. The pork was amazing.

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Southside Market Sausage

My own backyard. My husband is an amazing barbecue cook and we have several Viking smokers. Lately he's been tearing it up on a Viking Gravity Feed Smoker and the results have been some amazingly great barbecue!

Cook the Book: 'Nigella Christmas'

I made some beautiful linzer cookies several years back. The recipe was from one of the Silver Palette cookbooks, and it contained a ton of butter, which made the dough really difficult to work with. My mother loves these cookies, and they were a real labor of love.

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Zingerman's Culinary Adventure Society

Banoffee Pie in London (at Bumble's), breakfast at Norma's in NYC (plus dinner at Picholine for the best risotto ever) and enjoying spicy eggplant and also the smoked pork with cabbage at Hunan Homes in San Francisco.

Weekend Cook and Tell: Your Favorite Cookbooks of 2009

Not sure if this was a 2008 or 2009 title, but Serious Barbecue by Adam Perry Lang has been used quite a bit this year. He takes barbecue to new heights and his recipes are wonderful. We love his apple barbecue sauce and also his methods for grilling pork loin and smoking pork butt and beef brisket. If you have a barbecue lover/cook in your house, it is an excellent gift.

"Invited to dinner" food mishaps

My husband is an awesome grill cook, so the worst for us was being invited to someone's house for grilled chicken that ended up being both burnt and raw. (How is that possible? Believe me, it is!) There was almost no way to move it around on the plate enough to make it look like we had eaten any of it. It made me even more thankful for hubby's grill prowess.

Are You a Triangle or Rectangle Sandwich Cutter?

depends on the sandwich. Grilled cheese, diagonal. Regular sandwiches, down the middle. Anything with multiple layers and piled high, into quarters.
