Liquid Smoking

Of course it's difficult to trust people who would try to pursue a marketing angle in such a silly way. Nonetheless I want to know if the product delivers on the high and euphoria.

Dear AHT: Best Burger in Canada Is at Peter's Drive-In

My vote for good burgers in Calgary has to be either Burger Inn, or Boogie's Burgers, an awesome little joint just out of downtown with old video games.
Peter's is a sentimental favorite; in my mind they've always distinguished themselves more for their gigantic portions - the single burgers include an extra half patty in addition to the first, and the fries, onion rings and shakes are served in orders far too large for one person.
But the quality of the burgers themselves? Generic pre-shaped and surely from frozen patties, standard toppings and buns.
Peter's is tremendously well-regarded; even an e-coli outbreak traced back to tainted food at the restaurant resulted in a flood of supportive business, rather than the typical shunning.

I thought of clafouti too, the thickness is there, but the fruit is baked in.

Guilty pleasure: many combinations of salty and sweet. Good chocolate with pretzels, popcorn, etc.

Liquid Smoking

sounds like it would be better for caffeine addicts than nicotine addicts.

Liquid Smoking

wow this is so odd but i don't know if it would make you want to smoke if you don't already because there is no nicotine in it and that is the addictive side to ciggs. it is really gross but i just don't see the point.maybe you have to be a smoker to get it?

I can totally vouch for the awesomeness of Peter's Drive-In, but I think the star of the show has got to be their SHAKES. They are so thick you need to (well ok, I need to) suck hard on the straw TWICE before you get your first sip.

The e-coli outbreak was interestingly enough not traced back to the meat, but to an employee who was carrying the bacteria and passed it on to a marshmallow milkshake, if I recall correctly.

Speaking of burgers in Canada...

Allow me to shamelessly plug myself. My name is Donald and I run a burger blog that reviews burgers in Victoria, BC and other places on Vancouver Island and the west coast.

The URL is www.vicburgers.blogspot.com

I've always been curious about the Calgary burger bus, and just the burger scene there in general. Seems to have much more of a burger culture than anywhere else in Canada.

Liquid Smoking

Mmmm yummy, sounds kind of like licking a fruity ashtray. Or smoking and chewing gum? Bubblicious! I know! It can be the new gateway to get teenagers to smoke! Does it have an age limit to buy it?

The NY Times recipe was reprinted in the Sunday magazine within the last year. Search for David Eyre's Pancake.

i thought clafouti but usually not in a skillet...but it's somewhere between dutch/german/swedish pancake and clafouti....goes to show you that food all over the world is the same...just takes on different clothes...

Randomly, I read this article and Steel Magnolias was on. Could it be Truvy's "cuppa-Cuppa-Cuppa"?

i went right to my Southern Living 1990 Annual Recipes cookbook and found a recipe for Sour Cream Pancakes with Fruit Topping. it doesn't specify an iron skillet so i'm thinking that the one i have isn't the one Helen is looking for but i'll be happy to put it here if she thinks it might be the one.

Tiramisu. I got some "to go" last night and had it for breakfast. Do I feel guilty? Yes. Will I do it again, first chance I get? Yes.

SPICY TUNA ROLL - I swear I am addicted. I have to have a spicy tuny roll from one particular sushi spo every dayt. I crave it almost as soon as I get up ever day. Sick, huh!

My guilty pleasure is that I can't pass up a piece of cheescake. Any kind! Plain, fancy - as long as it is cheescake...new york style, any style - love it. Thanks for this opportunity!

I am a sweet freak with very little guilt, though every now and again I get sad for no reason. The other day I ate a spoon of Duncan Hines fudge frosting right out of the container. It was all delicious and trans fatty. Does that count?

Sour-Patch Kids, Skittles, and other candies sold at movie theaters in large quantities, primarily to fourth-graders. I avoid making eye-contact as I make the purchase and then run off to the theater.

p.s. my girlfriend is dying for these tickets... please give them to me... please

This is kind of embarassing, but we're supposed to be honest here right? Just to be clear, these are *guilty* pleasures...

1. Butterscotch Krimpets (eat them quickly so no one notices and then lick off any icing stuck to the plastic)
2. Real whipped cream straight...a little dash of vanilla, high peaks, and then into my mouth!
3. Swedish fish (wow...I don't think I've ever told anyone how I feel about swedish fish)

Desserts I would not mind being caught with and would like in front of me this instant:
Sprungli
warm chocolate chip cookies
hot fresh Krispy Kreme glazed donuts
mint chocolate chip ice cream
