If Obama and McCain were food... What food would they be?
Just a query. Here in Australia, some people seem to be following the US politics. The media refer to John McCain as a war hero. Why is the general concensus on this page that John McCain is 'stale'? Is it because he's been around longer than the younger Obama? In terms of food, then it's a good analogy, however if we're talking about people, isn't life experience something to consider? Excuse an ignorant Aussie. Hope you can help.
In terms of food, I'd say Obama is a salad sandwich with all the trimmings, but McCain is the salt and pepper without which the sandwich would taste bland. (What do you think?)

Obama would be a Moon Pie, no one's totally sure what's in the middle but it just sounds soooooo darn appealing. McCain would be a Lorna Doone, not as offensive as some, but still kinda meh and grandma-y.
If Obama and McCain were food... What food would they be?
obama: fresh strawberry poppyseed salad from panera
mccain: frozen chicken pot pie from costco
If Obama and McCain were food... What food would they be?
Obama, New American Cusine. McCain S.O.S.
If Obama and McCain were food... What food would they be?
Obama is a chocolate-vanilla swirl soft-serve ice cream
McCain is a rootbeer float

I'm loving these comments. Very creative and thought provoking. Keep them coming!

This reminds me of the words of the great Arundhati Roy regarding the 2004 election, "...It’s not a real choice. It’s an apparent choice. Like choosing a brand of detergent. Whether you buy Ivory Snow or Tide, they’re both owned by Proctor & Gamble..."
Given that most of our foods are also controlled by a select oligarchy, we can choose any number of brand analogies to Obama/McCain. Like say Sobe vs Pepsi, La Choy vs ManWich, Kellogg's Cocoa Krispies vs Krispy Saltine Crakers...

gotta agree with brownie here.......they all suck...........
If Obama and McCain were food... What food would they be?
I tried not to think too hard about it and the first things that came to my mind were
Obama = BLT
McCain = Pot Roast

To answer the "Aussie"'s question, I think the reason people keep referring to McCain as stale is because he is on the Republican/conservative side, not because he is old. Obama keeps preaching change change change, while people fear that with McCain things will remain the same...and be "stale" (and in this present state....bad!) That's the way I took it, but please correct me if you think I'm wrong.
As for my food votes:
Obama = sliced bread (set a historical precedent just by being nominated and also signifies "change")
McCain = flour (because he is too tied in with the original loaf of bread - the Bush administration)
Hillary
Chew on That

I'm not sure I can pin Obama down to a specific food. I keep seeing the spread at a big and vibrant Farmers Market.
McCain? Lutefisk...

McCain is something you pull out of the refrigerator that's covered with mold.
Obama is something unfamiliar you find on a menu and you're not quite sure if it's going to taste good or not.
If Obama and McCain were food... What food would they be?
McCain = Prune
Obama = Can of Mystery Meat
If Obama and McCain were food... What food would they be?
Obama seems like something really healthy, like cruciferous vegetables, but in some sort of wonderful creamy sauce that makes people want to eat them anyway.
McCain is whatever flavor GWB is, just served at a more respectable establishment, cooked by a more experienced chef, and seasoned better. Still essentially the same dish.

@ FastFoodCritic -- I agree.
All politicians suck. Some just suck worse than others, is all.
If Obama and McCain were food... What food would they be?
Obama = Snickers

They're both turkeys.

If Obama and McCain were food... What food would they be?
McCain would be one of those wrinkly old hot dogs rotating around itself for years and years, going nowhere.
If Obama and McCain were food... What food would they be?
Obama: Chinese food. Elect him and four years later you are still hungry. You'll wish you hadn't been talked out of ordering the Hillary by seeing what was on everyone else's plate.
McCain: Canned soup and dry toast. It's all you can keep down when you're sick.
If Obama and McCain were food... What food would they be?
Whatever they are they both cost too much and won't taste as good as you thought they would.
If Obama and McCain were food... What food would they be?
SPAM
Both of them.
If Obama and McCain were food... What food would they be?
I am sad to see this become political. I am a political junkie and belong to a number of wonderful sites to get my "fix". This site feeds my other passion: food.
If Obama and McCain were food... What food would they be?
McCain = Wonder bread
Obama = Artisinally made, multigrain, organic baguette
