Glad to hear I'm not the only one with a sensative alarm. Mine goes off while frying bacon! Also any time I set my oven to self clean, I have to open all of the windows in the house and turn on the fan to keep the alarm from going off every few minutes for 3 hours.
Ten years ago, a week after I moved into my apartment, I had a salted fish on the stove. The alarm went off, my next door neighbor called 911, the next thing I heard was a thump on my door. When I opened the door, three over six foot firemen towering over me.
"Everything is okay, maam?"
cochinita pibil. the dish wasn't wrapped tight enough and the marinade boiled over. what a smokey mess!
Bacon, I like mine just this side of cremated.
My cat and smoke alarm go off at the same time. One doesn't like the other, so it sounds like: Beep, Beep, Beep. MEOOOOOOOW! Beep, Beep,Beep. Both keeping perfect time.

All these responses make me wonder: do passionate cooks die in more house fires than the average person? Because no one seems to have an operating smoke alarm anymore!
That's where the tequila comes in, I presume.

Lamb chops marinated in olive oil and spices. The oil sparked the broiler in no time flat. The smoke alarm down the hall was going off!
Ours goes off all the time, especially with anything in the oven. At one point we were doing like french tart and taking it off while cooking, putting it back up later, but now it's pretty much always off.
