Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 90: The Return of Thinner
Ed, we were totally in New Haven at the same time. Pepe's was out of clam pies by the time we got there though sadly.
Dinner Tonight: Roast Chicken with Saffron and Lemons
Made this last night with great success! Served it with some sauteed greens and brown rice fried up with with golden raisins, slivered almonds, sliced onions, a pinch of cumin and ground coriander, then sloshed with delicious pan juice!

Amazing 66: A Truly Amazing Menu in Manhattan's Chinatown
We go here whenever my parents are in town. The chicken stuffed with shrimp (one of my mom's favorites) though never had a pre-order requirement. The golden prawns over twin rice and the straight-up roast chicken with garlic are definitely two of my favorites. I end up putting those soyed-up garlic bits on everything that touches my plate.

Recipe on the Upper West Side: A Recipe for Success That Needs A Few Tweaks
Ed, I've been so happy about all these Upper West Side reviews and I'm still wondering when I'm going to run into you at Gray's (though with your Serious Diet, this might be less likely. See you at Fairway?).
More importantly, was this monster still on the menu at Recipe??: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/troVnfJw7fZZavXEL2X8mQ?select=4D4PyOAsVO47RNMGc53uow

Best soft shell crabs in NYC?
Great NY Noodletown in Chinatown. Especially at 3am after a long night out.
A Beginner's Guide to Soft Shell Crabs

Hanci Turkish Cuisine, a Much Needed Turkish Restaurant in New York
Ali Baba's pretty good-- don't know if I'd go out of the way for it though.
$24 Lunch prixe fix at Cafe Boulud: Anyone done this yet?
I went this summer and it was good-- but not amazing. Had a recent RW lunch at Dovetail that was much better.
Super Bowl Party Giveaway: New York Burger Limerick Winner
Bill, I am very excited to eat this meat this Sunday. Thank you for being my talented limerick-writing friend. Love from, perpetually-hungry Jenn.
Mark Bittman's Savory Oatmeal with Scallions and Soy Sauce
I actually don't like oatmeal and have been trying to get myself to eat it for years-- this sounds GREAT, especially with the fried egg. I'd even add a little sesame oil/chili oil. The microwave option makes it perfect for the office!
Rack and Soul: The Best Fried Chicken and Ribs in New York?
I live right around the corner from here and the best is the $6 kids meal-- a decent amount of food, especially if you get the pulled pork. I ordered the catfish strips meal once and thought they were a bit on the chewy side until I got halfway through and realized they had given me chicken strips! Getting catfish confused with chicken-- pretty embarassing!
Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 51: My Birthday Gift to Myself
YAYYY ED!!! Happy Birthday!
Village Pourhouse Will Pay Your Cab Ride in Booze
I would double-check on this before you cab it up there. I tried to do it 2 weekends ago, but was told by the bartender that they were stopping this promotion in 2009. Maybe they picked it up again?
Drink Wine Out of Baby Bottles at La Cave des Fondus
I've been to the one in Paris too and it's just ridiculously fun. Can't wait.
Gourmet's Turkey Jook
"Jook" is how you say it in Cantonese. My family makes this every year!
Ed Levine's Questionable Pizza Practices: Do You Leave Your Pies Out Overnight? For Two Nights?
I did this in college when the fridge was too full to house leftover pizza pies. I remember when Ed told me to leave fresh mozzarella out on the counter for a few days. I did it and survived! I have a long list of questionable choices (like eating leftovers that fell on parking lot asphalt) and would like to believe that this kind of behavior only makes your stomach more resilient and basically-- badass.
Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 38: Embracing My Inner Bok Choy
YAY! That's so awesome. Baby bok choy rocks. You should try eating with slippery chopsticks...that might slow the rate of consumption. I have a similar problem--I eat so fast sometimes I forget to breathe!
Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 37: The Big Diet Mo
Yay Ed! Now that's some "change we can believe in."
Dear AHT: Best Burgers in Philly?
didn't want to overload on burgers and I was staying in S. Philly so I went with the Royal Tavern's fine fine fine burger. delicious, cooked rare, plenty of condiments. that is a classy joint.
Dear AHT: Best Burgers in Philly?
Grace used to hold the Philly top spot for me too. But calling a burger the best in Philly isn't saying much.
But I recently had the burger at Village Whiskey, and it is not just the best burger in Philadelphia -- it is easily one of the best burgers I've ever had. Get there. Now.
Amazing 66: A Truly Amazing Menu in Manhattan's Chinatown
Another small bone to pick, following that of the Rebbetzin: Japanese pumpkin is kabocha, not to be confused with kombucha (the ubiquitous seaweed-based health food store tea so popular in trendy NY nabes these days). Kambucha seems like it would be some autumnal fantasy drink for Park Slope yoginis that combine the two.
PS. I live in Park Slope and I love it. Not hatin'.
Amazing 66: A Truly Amazing Menu in Manhattan's Chinatown
yum...i am booking flight to NYC soon!
Amazing 66: A Truly Amazing Menu in Manhattan's Chinatown
Roast Chicken with Garlic/Preserved Vegetable is one of my faves! Great review! You got a lot of the dishes my family and I would've ordered. I gotta try that fried chicken stuffed with sticky rice.
Amazing 66: A Truly Amazing Menu in Manhattan's Chinatown
This already has me racking my brain to come up with a way to create the Crispy Chicken Stuffed with Sticky Rice...I want to make this dish...
Amazing 66: A Truly Amazing Menu in Manhattan's Chinatown
so excited for my next trip to nyc. kicking myself for not finding it when i lived there! amazing.
Dear AHT: Best Burgers in Philly?
I've eaten almost every burger on the board and think that Grace Tavern has the tastiest burgers of them all. Substitute the fries with the blackened green beans. They're sensational.
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
Zatarain's Creole Mustard
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
I like a lot of different kinds, all mentioned above, but wanted to put in a vote of confidence for the Garlic Dijon Aioli at Trader Joe's. It's goood.
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
Hengstenberg Medium Hot German Mustard, great flavor without the vinegar taste of most yellow mustards.
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
My work's home base is in Switzerland. There, I discovered Thomy’s Senf. I thought at first, it was toothpaste, as it's sold in a tube (very portable). Thomy is a Swiss brand that produces food products such as mayonnaise, mustard, salad dressings, and the best [again in a tube] tomato paste. If you can get a tube of this Swiss equivalent to the U.S. 'every home has some' of French's Yellow, you'll love it. It's creamy and thick, has a nice sharpness and is packed with amazing flavor.
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
i buy trader joe's dijon because it's so much cheaper than maille, which was my standard for years. would love to see how your panel compares the two.
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
Raye’s “Down East Schooner” Mustard. It was also the gold medal winner in the 'Classic American Yellow Mustard' category at the 2009 Mustard Competition.
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
I agree with all those praising Nance's Sharp & Creamy mustard. I swear I could eat it with a spoon. Once a devoted ketchup user with french fries, I now dip them in Nance's....if that's not love, I don't know what is.
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
Maille regular and whole grain Dijon
Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard
French's Yellow
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
maille whole grain and regular dijon
billy bee honey mustard
bella cucina balsamic mustard
edmond fallot tarragon mustard
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
Bertman's Ballpark Mustard - absolutely the best! (I live in CT but order it from OH)
Stonewall Kitchen's Blue Cheese & Herb Mustard, amazing flavors abound.
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
Woebel's Sweet and Spicy Mustard - well balanced, not too sweet at all. Then again, I find a lot of honey mustards way too sweet.
Gulden's Mustard for a spicy, yet mild and found everywhere here in the Northeast.
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
Maille Dijon, like many others have said. Though I also have developed a fondness for Grey Poupon coarse ground mustard, which I often use in my cooking as well.
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
definitely stadium mustard. might only be available in Cleveland though. now I'm going to have to check Boston supermarkets for it....
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
Kosciusko Spicy Brown Mustard
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
Honeycup Mustard. There's nothing else out there like it. Such a strong flavor, I love it. In fact, I'm eating a sandwich with it right now!
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
Yellow mustard doesn't taste like mustard to me. It tastes like Vinegar.
Maille's my brand for sure.
@Expatslat - oh man it's a deadly blend!! soo good
I'm a fan of most President's Choice condiments as well.
Do You Have a Favorite Mustard?
Roland Extra-Strong Dijon
