36 Hours in New Orleans: Where to Eat

The beignets from Cafe Beignet were worlds better than Cafe du Monde in my opinion. Also, Frankie and Johnny's had a delicious crawfish boil and some best fried shrimp I've had anywhere. My husband and I went two years ago for our anniversary, here's a recap along with some more calorie-laden pictures.

Fatty 'Cue: Brooklyn Barbecue Goes Asian

Fette Sau is my go-to barbecue joint whether in Manhattan or otherwise (granted I have yet to get myself to Hill Country). It's an all-around great place to go w/ friends or a casual impromptu night out.

Totally agree with the majority here in terms of Fatty Cue being such a disappointment. I didn't have a problem with any of the food really but it definitely was not memorable in any way (except maybe the yellow curry dipping sauce that came with some kind of meat) but it was way overpriced for the portions. $6 for the thiny sliced celery in what was essential a small rice bowl is just unjustifiable. I don't think there was half a rib of celery in the entire dish.

A Look Inside Fatty 'Cue, Bringing Southeast Asian Barbecue to Williamsburg

I went to Fatty Cue on Easter with three others and while the food was good, everything sounded more interesting and different than they tasted. The fact that the portions are tiny but pricey didn't help the impression. We had been anticipating the opening and I REALLY wanted to love it but it just wasn't meant to be I suppose.

That being said, the beef rendang was delicious and my favorite dish. I just wish there were maybe two ribs instead of just one :)

Great pictures and descriptions Joe!

Kid-friendly restaurants in Manhattan

Are you looking for lunch or dinner? A lot of places that aren't necessarily children appropriate for dinner are fine for lunch. We take my 14 month old with us to most places at lunch and never feel uncomfortable.

That being said S'mac in the East Village is a mac and cheese place that would be a hit with kids that age and it's definitely a casual feel so lunch or dinner is fine there.

Crif Dogs is also a very casual/take out place that serves all kind of hot dogs, tater tots, chili cheese fries, etc... in the East Village that's also good for kids.

BLT Fish Shack is kid appropriate too and has things that kids would like I think.

Serious Eats NYC-Boston Road Trip: Suggestions Needed

My favorite must do brunch when I go to Boston (as in, every single morning we are there) is at Metropolis Cafe on Tremont. The huevos rancheros is my single favorite brunch item ever, anywhere. The spicy black bean hash is great.

And I'm not a granola/yogurt type girl but their toasted granola, fruit, and yogurt dish is as good as it gets.

Lunch for One: Basta Pasta

My favorite dish at Basta Pasta is the just-cookied spaghetti that they toss at the table with a hollowed out half-wheel of parmigiano reggiano cheese.

Simple, but decadent and delicious.

What do I do with pounds of TRIPE

That curry tripe sounds great! I've never had it that way before but I can imagine it would be wonderful.

You could make classic Chinese braised tripe, which is also delicious over rice.

I find that just boiling tripe during hot pot leaves the texture a bit chewy and very bland. If you braise it for a while, it becomes very soft and almost melting. Your bf might like it better that way, especially paired with stronger flavors like the curry mentioned and sweet soy sauce w/ the Chinese way.

Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: La Quercia

Snapshots from London: Good Eats At Borough Market

Favorite parts of Borough Market from when I went EVERY weekend during my 4 month back and forth business trips a few years back:

Stand selling freshly sliced comte cheese, (first introduced to comte there and all others I've found here pale in comparison), falafel stand across from awesome raclette stand, freshly shucked oysters, more varieties of olives in a single stand than I've seen in almost all of Manhattan, meat pies from the butchers, baguettes...

I could go on and on. I must get myself back there soon! :)

Video: How to Make Homemade Halloween Candy on 'Working Class Foodies'

Definitely making the brittle for our Christmas baskets this year with a dash of peppermint extract mixed in w/ the chocolate. Thanks for the instructional video!

Anybody else notice that the cost for each candy apple that came up on the screen was calculated as $8 for 6 apples versus the correct $6 for 8 apples?

Dinner Tonight: Baked Ziti

I've heard (via Alton Brown perhaps?) that the farther along a canned tomato goes from whole, the more processing it goes through which will degrade its quality. Makes sense to me since diced tomatoes from a can often seem waterlogged and tasteless (IMHO).

I always buy whole canned tomatoes and "process" them myself.

Serious Eats Is Bringing Hot Doug's to NYC October 7

Sugar Rush: Green Apple

That looks more like ice cream to me than gelato. Was the actual consistency less so? It looks a little icy...

Always open to a good pistachio sorbet place though. I've found none in NYC that rival those in Italy though unfortunately. Ahh to go back :o)

About: I am a 20-something food junkie who'd rather spend her days cooking/baking than sitting behind a computer working in finance. Maybe one day I will realize the dream :o)

Favorite foods: All things Batali. I hail to his wonderful orange Crocs.

Last bite on earth: A perfect slice of pizza made with tomato sauce made from San Marzano tomatoes, fresh buffalo mozzarella, and basil. Yum.
