Come on in 'The Kitchn'

I definitely did the RC and moon pie thing growing up. It reminds me of weekends spent with my grandmother.

Finding Nostalgia and Burger Synergy at Char-Grill in Raleigh, NC

I used to live in Raleigh and LOVED the Char-Grill. My favorite order was a Jr. Steak with cheese and an order of fries. Just the smell of the place as you're sitting there waiting for your order is enough to make you drool.

*sigh* I miss Raleigh. Go Wolfpack!

Dinner Tonight: Chipped Beef Gravy

Chipped beef on toast was always a huge hit at our house growing up. Mom used Buddig beef, evaporated milk mixed with water (always on hand), margarine (butter, what was that?) and flour, maybe a little salt. We ate it on white Wonder type bread.

We only had a two slot toaster so my dad, sister and I used to wait for the toaster to pop and fight over the toast. I personally didn't like the beef back then, so I would be careful to pull out every single piece and just eat the beef flavored gravy.

I still make this every once in a while and now I actually eat the beef. I also eat biscuits and gravy, chicken and dumplings and meatloaf. Viva la white trash!

In-Flight Drinks: Spicy Tomato Juice

I always drink ginger ale on a plane, whether I am feeling queasy or not. It comforts me for some reason.

Cook the Book: America's Test Kitchen Family Baking Book

This year's cookie baking was my worst yet. There was something wrong with almost every batch of cookies I made. 2009 was definitely not my best Christmas cookie year. : (

Serious Heat: Spicy Chocolate for Halloween

Theo's chocolates in Seattle sell a ghost chile caramel they describe as "Buttery caramel infused with the heat of ghost chile peppers, enrobed in dark chocolate and sprinkled with Hawaiian red sea salt and dried chiles." They are just amazingly good with a tiny bit of heat.

Oh my, they are absolutely wonderful. I bought a box for a friend who dogsat for me while we were in Seattle, but I haven't seen her to give them to her yet. I'm seriously considering eating them (or ordering more from online). People like gift cards better than chocolate anyway, right? Right??

How Do You Define a Grilled Cheese Sandwich?

Great. Now I have to have the following for dinner:

Grilled cheese made with white bread, margarine and kraft singles - smooshed
Campbell's tomato soup made with milk and with about 10 saltines crushed and then added to the soup

Mmm mmm good.
