Peanut Butter: Good Foie Gras Replacement on New Year's?
@Lee Zalben
I like their Brut.
My family is close with the Gruets. My uncle turned grape growing/wine making as a hobby into an award winning endeavor. The Gruet family helped him get to where he is now. If you're ever in Albuquerque and dining in a nicer local restaurant, look up Milagro wines.
Sorry so late, Happy New Year!
Dos Toros Taqueria: Mission-Style Burritos, As Good as California's?
@thesteveroller, I totally knew that! One of my best friends from high school is a regional manager in Ft. Worth. The franchise is now a completely different one from the original store. The identity, recipes, etc. were purchased from the location in Santa Barbara and transformed into what it is today.
Dos Toros Taqueria: Mission-Style Burritos, As Good as California's?
There's a huge difference between Mexican and Tex Mex...this sounds like Tex Mex to me.
Major Texas cities have the state-local Freebird's chain. It's great.
Green and Red Chile in New Mexico Roundup
I grew up in this region. It's always depended on my mood or craving at that crucial order placing moment. Can't go wrong with trying both if you're unsure!
What Are Your Best Vending Machine Memories?
San Miguel in my dormatory vending machine while studying abroad in Spain.
Reservations and Deposits: Necessary, or Harmful to Restaurants?
There's a great restaurant here in Austin, UCHI, that takes reservations for a portion of the house and let the remainder be first come first serve. I think it's brilliant and it seems to work out perfectly.
Burger at Chaise Lounge in Chicago: Elegant, Simple, Incredible
That's not rare, it's black an blue. A minute or two longer on the grill would have rendered THE PERFECT BURGER, as far as appearances go, imo.
Peanut Butter: Good Foie Gras Replacement on New Year's?
Gruet - $15 a bottle and worth it.
Home for the Holidays: What's Your Must-Visit Hometown Haunt?
@Bingsy - you speak to my El Pasoan heart.
El Paso, in no particular order:
Chico's Tacos
Charcoaler
Avila's
State Line
Sorrento's (my aunt owns it)
Grigg's (although it's closed...sad face)
H&H Carwash (my cousins own it)
Toro Burger (recent addition to the list)
Big Bun (haven't been in forever, is it still open?)
In Season: Grapefruit
@Big Girls Small Kitchen Sounds fabulous.
Worst meal of your life
@seachanged which Belgian restaurant are you refering to? (Love Jeffrey's)
I have to agree with @shoneyjoe, horrible, horrible place.
Any meal that I've found hair or bugs. I can count those experiences on one hand.
Cakespy: Moldy Mice Cookies
Don't know what we call them in Arabic, but my Syrian family always have these at Christmas.
Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: La Quercia
With fresh fig, dab of goat cheese and cracked black pepper. So wonderful!
Dinner Tonight: Mushroom Bhaji (Mushrooms in Tomato-Onion Sauce)
This looks divine.
Top 5: Bill and Cheryl Jamison's Favorite Burgers in Santa Fe
I enjoyed the burger from Bobcat Bite. My husband, however, felt it was a little bit BLAH. Being an avid fan of green chile, I felt it tasted more like it was out of a can.
Your Starch, Veg, Fruit, Meat, Liqour, Guilty Pleasure of Choice
Red wine, CHEESE, CHEESE, CHEESE, pasta, garden tomatoes, cherries
Alton Brown's Roast Turkey
I'm over the whole "stuffing" thing. This bird sounds awesome! Can't wait to try it.
Taste Test: Store-Bought Stuffing
My mom puts mushrooms in her Pepperidge Farm Herb Seasoned dressing. It gives it amazing flavor. Glad to see it on the list.

We were at Crissy field a few months ago; almost made our walking tour all the way to you until I stubbed my toe and made us turn around :(
I was a sissy at Crissy and made us miss hotdog bliss.
