Saving Bacon Fat
I keep strained bacon fat in an empty peanut butter jar in the refrigerator. It's great for frying breaded chicken tenders, greasing a loaf pan for cornbread and for basting the best ever sunny side up fried eggs. I'm totally going to try Donnie's suggestion for using it in place of butter when making my next grilled cheese sandwich.

Cook the Book: 'Big Bob Gibson's BBQ Book'
My father's cousin Richard would spit roast a whole pig at a family get together once a year when I was growing up. Best. Q. Ever.

Who Likes Grape Soda?
I love grape soda! My two favorite brands are Vess and Crush. I also like to melt a couple of popsicles of the same flavor with the Kool-Aid (yes, I still drink it on a regular basis) that I'm making. It seems to work particularly well with grape and cherry flavors.
I eat ______ out of the tin/jar/bottle...
I consume peanut butter, ice cream and slices of Oscar Mayer bologna straight out of the container. Sometimes I'll put a slice of American cheese on a piece (or two) of bologna, add a bit of yellow mustard and a dill pickle slice, then roll it up like an enchilada. Reddi wip chugged out of the aeroesol can is good, too. Even unheated pork and beans from the can tastes surprisingly good.
4th of July: What's on Your Menu?
I keep one of my charcoal grills over at my Mom's house. On the 4th, I'm grilling us a couple of strip steaks, a few ears of corn and garlic bread. A pitcher of sun tea is on the menu, too.
Cook the Book: 'Bobby Flay's Burgers, Fries & Shakes'
My favorite burger is homemade. I start with about 6 oz. of 85% lean ground beef, seasoned with salt and pepper. It's grilled over charcoal and topped with cheddar cheese, a slice of tomato, yellow mustard, a couple of pickle slices and caramelized yellow onions. The kaiser bun is toasted as well. French fries and a root beer on the side make it complete.
Dear AHT: Have You Ever Gotten Food Poisoning from a Burger?
The only time I've ever gotten gotten sick from eating a burger was at a Hardee's in the early 80's. I solved that problem by never going there again.
Dear Food Network, Please Stop
The Food Network jumped the shark several years ago when they began to emphasize style over substance. I could never tolerate the the loud, talentless hack that is the Raytard, and Sandra Lee's show comes off like a parody of a real cooking show. Guy is a complete tool and the eminently face-punchable Bobby Flay's cockiness drove me away long ago. I'm glad to not be in the targeted FN demographic (i.e., I'm a not freaking moron) and don't care at all for the crappy reality programming which has taken over so many at one time very good channels. I prefer instructional cooking shows like those found on PBS, where I can actually learn something by watching.
Dinner Tonight: Reuben Sandwich
There are very few sandwiches that equal a Reuben in the delicious factor. I make mine with homemade rye from my bread machine and use an electric panini maker to grill it to toasted perfection before it is devoured in short order. A dill pickle on the side completes the meal.
Bobby Flay Launches Line of Bobby's Burger Palace Sauces
Where's the Snooty Sauce? I know Flay is a pretty good cook, but there's just something about him that seems so face-punchable. He's toned it down a few notches since marrying Stephanie, but I can't forget what a swarmy jerk he was before that.
Carl's Jr. CEO on Their Controversial Ads, and More
The food at Carl's Jr. is memorable, for the reason that it sucks.
S.O.S. (...on a shingle): Way or No Way?
Definitely way. It's one of my ultimate comfort foods. Mashed potatoes topped with creamed corn served along with it complete the meal. Using Buddig chipped beef is my favorite ......

'The Big Fat Duck Cookbook' Reviewed
I mis-read 'The Big Fat Duck Cookbook' initially as something pretty funny. Think pre-diet Subway Jared for a clue.
