Don't Mess with Our Chocolate
The European Parliament once tried to legislate that British chocolate, because of high vegetable fat and sugar content in comparison to a low cocoa content, should be called "Vegolate" instead; they lost.

I'm in the Army and we walk 12 miles before breakfast. Usually only takes us less than 4 hours. After that though we usually go to the nearest Mege-all you can eat-buffet.

I would walk that far for a slice of pizza from my childhood pizza joint in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, without a doubt. If someone could re-create my favorite Italian restaurant in Brooklyn (closed for several years now) - Mama Turrey's - I would walk that far for their Spinach Canneloni.
I want to know if the burger was worth the walk though!

Slippery ham pot pie... heaven in a bowl... basically, a stew with thick, doughy homemade noodles. Here's the description from Wikipedia:
In the Pennsylvania Dutch region, there is a dish called "bott boi" by Deitsh-speaking natives and is mispronounced "pot pie" by English speakers in the area. This dish is sometimes referred to as "slippery noodle pot pie" to distinguish it from the true pie form of pot pie. Bott Boi is a stew, usually made of a combination of chicken, ham, beef, or wild game with square-cut egg noodles, potatoes, and a healthy stock of onion, optional celery and/or carrots, and parsley. Bouillon is sometimes used to enhance the flavor. The egg noodles are often made from scratch from flour, eggs, salt (optional) and water.

Why doesn't Clarambeau just jump in the news van? Why doesn't Grylls just eat his cameraman's Powerbar stash?
LOL.
If I actually had to walk 12 miles for something, I'd eat something really greasy and caloric, like an authentic Philly cheesesteak.
Mmmmm cheesesteak.

@kenjialtci: I thought the same thing. Figured it must have been a reenactment. Like the way Bear Grylls does his thing in Man vs. Wild. Why doesn't Clarambeau just jump in the news van? Why doesn't Grylls just eat his cameraman's Powerbar stash?

Don't know about doing anything specifically to get something, but I did ride my bike an extra 50 miles or so (total 150 miles) to get a croissant from Buchon Bakery....and damn was it good. I also regularly do a 100 mile ride in Marin specifically so I can visit the cowgirl creamery, a few bakeries I like, or Pizzeria Picco.

This is a no brainer--roast suckling pig, preferably with an apple in it's mouth.

I have to agree with several of the others. A Double-Double "Animal Style" and a side of "Animal" fries from In-N-Out. A 12 mile walk beats the seven hour drive I have to make now.

lol @ gastronomeg...
umm, anything homemade by dad but that's just me being silly. ok, let's see... 12 miles... well, like one of the above commenters alluded to, when i'm on vacation, we walk everywhere, lots... i think after a long hot walk like that, a nice cold drink... chilled white wine with some delish cheeses and serrano ham and some olives? i'm easy, i'll walk anywhere for food :)

12 miles isn't so far to walk. I think it's nice. Frankly, I'd walk anywhere for almost any good food! Particularly, if it's free! I'd much rather hear stories like these...people being passionate about food and establishments, in return, recognizing & rewarding it...instead of-"man carjacks car and robs burger joint" Ha ha, right?

I guess this wouldn't make for a good story- but why couldn't one of his co-workers drive him there??

give us vegans a break! ;-) the best dark chocolate in the world is vegan. i happily do w/out the milk stuff, and "milk substitute" sounds even less appealing.
