absentminded kitchen disasters
I once bought a bag of frozen plums, and I didn't think to check whether they contained pits. I tried to use them in a smoothie, shattering my blender and making a huge mess. And I couldn't even drink the smoothie, because it had pieces of pit in it :/
Looks Like an East Coast Super Bowl: What Foods Shall We Wager?
No shit fires this year, at least not yet. Mostly good-natured drinking and eating 'burg foods. Hope it stays that way!
Looks Like an East Coast Super Bowl: What Foods Shall We Wager?
Chipped ham bbq is one of the few things we always had that I loved as a kid but haven't cooked (or eaten) since I left home five or six years ago. My mom's recipe was dreadfully easy - ketchup, brown sugar, and a little bit of Coca Cola. Mmm. I pretty much forget about it until someone mentions any sort of ketchup/brown sugar bbq sauce.
I wonder if 'Burgh kids will be lighting shit on fire and rioting again over this year's game like the did when the Steelers took it in '06.
Meat Lite: Warm Winter Salad
this was amazing. i didn't use the proscuitto since i'm vegetarian. i also substituted yams for the butternut, since that's what i had and a rosemary loaf for the multigrain loaf. easy to make and great for leftovers the next day. i can imagine tons of good substitutes and i'm thinking crumbled blue cheese on top wouldn't hurt in place of the romano.

Well, dang! No Battle of Pennsylvania this year and I was all ready to wager a few pounds of our homemade scrapple on this one too!

Looks like you guys jumped the gun. Wonder if crow is as tasty as the roasted Eagle the Cardinals are serving. Guess you'll have to include some southwest flavors now.
Do you eat your vegetables?
I also crave veggies! Funny thing, I was craving roasted brussel sprouts the other day and had to have them..No one believes me when I tell them they taste soooo goooood when they're prepared this way!! Love it.....
Do you eat your vegetables?
I'm a vegetarian. So, yes.
I love vegetables...like, to the point where I crave them. The other day I woke up with an urge to have roasted brussels sprouts. I thought about them from the moment I woke up until six at night when I finally had them. I love steamed vegetables with hot sauce on them. Broccoli, brussels sprouts, asparagus and mushrooms...my four favorites :)

Try preparing dinner with a swollen and sore foot! I had to do that the other night, as I'd taken out the food scraps to the compost bin (in bare feet, as it's summer in the southern hemisphere) and stood on a bee. To make matters worse -- I had a job interview later in the evening :( Probably straying a little from the thread, I know...

"Secrets of a Restaurant Chef"
Everyone's banging on here about Ann being a "Pro Chef", and how she's a great restaurant professional. What separates a Chef from a cook is the ability to lead a group of kitchen staff to believe in your food and produce it faithfully and consistently.
Ann was fired from Centro Vinoteca for making a real mess of the team there, both front and back of house. Her cooks didn't respect her and turned over at a rate you wouldn't believe. She was arrogant and offensive to the service staff, allowed no dietary adjustments, and peered out of her open kitchen, judging and belittling guests, and sniggering at peoples' dress sense or haircuts with her singular floor staff ally. She would not accept constructive criticism, preferring to send out sub-standard dishes than admit she's human and needs help from the experienced crew around her.
Secrets of a Restaurant Chef. The only secrets that this cook, who was fired from her last restaurant, could share, would be along the lines of how to lose friends, a clientele, a reputation for good food, the faith of an entire restaurant crew, and healthy arteries.
There is one, singular useful message that I take from Anne Burrell. Brown food does indeed, taste good, and I remember it every time I cook. As for anything else, let the sycophancy rest. Unless you haven't noticed, no-one's rushing to hire this "Restaurant Chef". Her reputation in this industry is completely shot.

How about a chipped ham bbq from Isaly's? (I have dreams about these by the way, no chipped ham going on down here in Florida).....http://www.isalys.com/
Bay Area Eats: Golden Mar, Seriously Good Indonesian Food
GrabTrees: There's a popular and really yummy Indonesian dessert smoothie made of avocado, sweetened condensed milk, an ice =)
muink2009: That's a shame -- Marianna's usually really sweet. Will you share what happened?
What to Do With Leftover Wine: Mulled Wine Syrup
I have a chef friend who uses wine to boil pasta in! Drunken Pasta has been a favorite of mine since then, and I use the leftover wine to make this dish. U can use part wine and water, depending how much wine is available. Toss is some fried peppers, hot and sweet, chopped parsley, grated cheese and enjoy!

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!
The only thing I have to donate from Pittsburgh to Baltimore is one extra large can of whoop-arse in exchange for a superbowl ring!
Looks Like an East Coast Super Bowl: What Foods Shall We Wager?
I'll throw my hat in and challenge a Steelers fan - I'll send you some homemade Berger cookies if the Ravens lose, but since they won't, what will you send me? (Keep in mind that I'm a vegetarian so meaty things are simply out of the question.)
Looks Like an East Coast Super Bowl: What Foods Shall We Wager?
The Super Bowl will get higher ratings if the Cards and Steelers play.
If the Ravens and Eagles go, we all might as well watch a DVD, or do some yard work. For those stuck in the snow, shovel the sidewalk.
If the Steelers and Eagles play, I may watch, but really, will anyone care outside of the northeast? Not really.
The one thing that can't happen, is the Ravens getting in. I hate the Steelers, being a Raiders fan, but the Ravens are the most boring team in all of football to watch. The "big game" will be ruined if they make it. Don't get me wrong, I love thier fans, as they have always been nice to me when going to games in Baltimore. Love their city as well. Still, their footbal team is sleep inducing. I love a great defense, but teamed up with a "just don't screw it up" offense, and you have nap time.
If the Ravens make it, I know a lot of people who are going to just sigh, and say "please make sure the keg is in a warm spot, so we can all hang out".

@HeartofGlass: Thanks for sharing that NYT article Rendell, Rendell, Rendell. He's got a heart of solid gold! But I think if the Steelers win, he should dress up and parade around Harrisburg in tights, dressed as a pierogi. If the Eagles win, he should dress up and parade about as a Hostess twinkie. Got any better ideas?
Looks Like an East Coast Super Bowl: What Foods Shall We Wager?
@ floridayaya - I forgot about the black and gold gift set! I have transplanted Steeler fans friends in Atlanta. I think I'll send one to them! I'll need to upgrade to the black and gold gift set now for my wager :-)
