Homebrewing: Essentials for Your First Brew

This is a great topic for Serious Eats: I was wondering why there are articles about mixing drinks but not producing them. As a homebrewer, I thought I'd comment on the $150 setup fees. 1) This is a hobby - not a money saving operation. I calculated that ingredients alone cost (per bottle) approximately the same as decent microbrews at Trader Joes or Costco. Of course, buying premade beer cuts out the mad scientist fun. 2) Depending on luck and waiting, much equipment can be purchased on Craigslist or ebay for a fraction of the original price.

Ed Levine's Serious Diet, Week 87: Do Weights Help You Lose Weight?

Congratulations on your success so far! I have been on my own crusade to slim down, and have found yoga to be invaluable. If you find the right kind of class (ie. power, ashtanga, vinyasa yoga) the workout can be very intense for cardio and muscles. It's a good way to work and stretch all of your muscles, rather than concentrating on a few major groups. Also, it's brought me a much closer awareness of the state of my body: what it needs and what it doesn't. Ultimately though, find a workout/class you enjoy or it will never last!

I also made these recently. They are easy and convenient to make. However, I thought they just looked like brown cylinders - not really all that attractive. Also, I wasn't a big fan of the crumbly texture. It was too floury, I think. Maybe these just aren't my kind of cookie!
