What childhood food do you wish they still made?

I don't know if it's my tastebuds or if they changed the recipes..but I wish they would make Funyuns and Strawberry shortcake ice cream bars the way they used to. Funyuns used to be less salty and those bars used to have more tart ice cream and more crunchies on the outside. I don't know if they're still around..but Homeboy chips were awesome.

school lunches, now and back when i went in the 60's & 70's

I'm 19 and the crap they used to give us was nearly inedible. I lived in a very ghetto, urban city in Connecticut (yea that sounds weird). I remember this one time when we got letters from the district saying that the trucks that brought that crap were infested with mice. yuck. And our lunch ladies were MEAN. If we got to loud, they would bang a bunch of plastic trays on the table to quiet us down. Haha then they would make us clean up and scrub the tables..even though it was their job to do it.

Airport Security checkpoints and food stories....

I sent some homemade cookies in my bfs suitcase from Houston to NY and they opened the container, crushed every single cookie, and closed the container. It was in a styrofoam container and the container was fine.

When the vending machine calls, what do you choose?

yummm hot fries. I always wondered is the guy on the hot fries package the same guy in the Home Depot store? Can someone please tell me this? lol

Who partakes in a little fast food action?

Duchess Chicken Parm has been a favorite since I was little. My family used to order a bucket of KFC and we would eat it with rice and sriracha mixed with ketchup.

Recipe/Fiction

I do recall reading a book called, "Liver Cookies" where these kids put liver pate in their cookie batter and they became a big hit..but I've never actually made them even though they included recipes for them.

When do you refuse to eat foods that touch one another?

I don't care if my food touches..although once I experimented as a kid an tried to eat chips and chew gum at the same time...doesn't work.

Heart-shaped food?

lol..that story is so funny!..Umm my boyfriend is notoriously late for everything, so one Valentines Day, I began slicing bananas and cutting them into little, lopsided hearts.

The Art of Making Bánh Tét

oh my goodness, I LOVE these (Cambodians make the same thing). I used to eat them cold. But the best way I like them is when you slice them and pan fry them.

Low Carbers?

I tried a low carb diet when I was a young teenage model/pageant contestant. I ate a lot of plain lettuce and chicken. It actually did work and I got really skinny, however the bad outweighed the good (even for vain, little me). Your gas STINKS (sorry if that was TMI hahaa), you're always tired, you don't look your best (the irony..), and I had a hard time paying attention in class. Now, I stick to eating lots of protein and the carbs that I do eat are usually fiber filled.

Good Luck!

Ketchup Chips: The Search for Delicious

I know you can buy this at the convenience store..but we always bring beef jerky..store bought or homemade. The chewiness keeps us awake.

Silly Things People Believe About Food

When you are Southeast Asian, your elders will tell you certain things about food so that you can eat the undesirable parts and they can be left with the best parts of food. For example; "If you eat the eyeball of a fish, you'll be able to see very well" or "If you eat the tail of a fish, you can swim fast!" or my personal fave "If you eat burned rice, your penis will grow!" hahaa I would ask if it pertained to me, b/c I'm a girl...but I "still should eat it" LOL I know some people who still haven't realized that elders were trying to trick them!

From Talk

What's your favorite type of apple?

Crabapples..when someone in my family discovers a tree and shamelessly steals them off other peoples property. I eat them plain or dipped in this sour/spicy dip they make..it's probably just a Southeast Asian-American thing though...
