I'm a vegan and I love doughnuts. But $3.50 for one petit doughnut, no thank you!

It's nice to see that they put some effort in their veggie burger. Most places just take a Gardenburger or Boca Burger out of their freezer and slap it on the grill.

That's Nuts: Five Things To Do with Leftover Halloween Candy

I always end up with 3 blow pops and some Now & Laters. I bring mine to work and feed it to my coworkers. Maybe that's because I never have anything good and chocolatey left. Who doesn't know what to do with leftover Reese's peanut butter cups? Who HAS leftover Reese's peanut butter cups?!

If - and that's a big if - there's any chocolate Halloween candy left, I've chopped it in the food processor, then froze it in plastic bags. It makes a good addition to Christmas cookie batter, and I don't have to buy extra chocolate chips.

the oatmeal raisinet cookie idea is so great!! i'm definitely going to make that.

i have a couple of stupidly easy recipes that i've made with candy (although not leftover- like some other commenters, i know of no such thing). while i love baking from scratch, these both use mixes, and i've gotten more rave reviews from them than anything else- it hurts my wannabe ina garten pride a bit:

1- make a brownie mix per instructions. pour half of the batter into the prepared pan. break up a toffee bar (or any other type of chocolate bar, really) and layer the bar evenly over the batter. pour in the other half of batter. bake.

2. (similar to cookie suggestion above, but for cupcakes) prepare a brownie mix. fill halfway into greased muffin cups. stick a chocolate PB cup into the batter. fill cups with remaining batter. bake. (i top this with a PB frosting)

I've been fixated on that Butterfinger milkshake all freakin' day long! However, I don't have any ice cream or Butterfingers in the house. Damn you, Lee Zalben! :) I have a feeling I will be making a run to the store before the night ends.

A different tangent for your leftovers:

Ever get leftover candy that is just leftover because it's the kind you don't like? Or maybe you are trying to be healthy and want to get rid of the rest once you've taken out a few for a treat?

My local children's hospital accepts excess Halloween candy that they distribute to the kids who weren't able to go trick or treating. The only requirement is that each portion is sealed (i.e. not a big bag of M&M's or homemade treats), and that a full ingredients list is available on the packaging so they can check for allergens, etc.

Just another option to consider...

i used to trade my brother 3 Musketeers for Reese's. neither of us liked Laffy Taffy, so we tried to give it to my mother, who accepted it wreathed in smiles and then later threw in the bin. does anyone actually like and eat Laffy Taffy?

Amen "omnomnom"! (I'm from Mich, too. Same area)

From Slice

Do You Put Ranch Dressing on Pizza?

I absolutely love ranch on my pizza. Granted, I am a middle-school student (though homeschooled), and got the idea from my (middle school, homeschooled) friends after we started dipping French-Fries in Ranch (that's justified in Mich--here most of the fries are way too greasy or way too dry). We decided to try it on our pizza--and it's great. Only Hidden Valley (tm) works though. Deep dish pizza doesn't need it, fortunately. A group fave for us is cayenne pepper, fresh black pepper, ranch, and tabasco sauce. I agree, if it's good pizza, it doesn't need condiments, but (1) pizza in metro-detroit isn't that good, and (2), it doesn't matter if it needs it--if ya want it, I say put it on unashamedly!

Wal-Mart Accused of Knock-Off Girl Scout Cookies

I must defend the Girl Scouts and their cookies. Our Council does a lot with the money; they support 3 or 4 camps, give camp credit to girls who sell cookies and enable troops to do activites they could not do otherwise. My troop took two trips with the money we earned.
Anyone who thinks Girl Scouts are just about cookies doesn't know much. They are helping girls become responsible, sharp women. My daughter was a Girl Scout for 12 years and earned a scholarship, attended 3 Wider Ops and participated in all sorts of leadership programs. She says Girl Scouts were a big part of why she is so successful today! Don't knock the Girl Scouts or their cookies. Boy Scouts sell popcorn and I always buy! Cookies end up saving parents money because the troop doesn't have to ask them since they earned cookie money.

From Serious Eats

Wal-Mart Accused of Knock-Off Girl Scout Cookies

So? Here in the USA we let the marketplace decide. We are a free market system. "Keebler" and "Back to Nature" both have "knock-offs" (if that's what you want to call them) and I am sure there are probably others. These flavor combos are classic and certainly not exclusive to the Girl Scouts. Many people love these cookies, but no longer wish to support the GS organization because of their sharp turn to the far PC left. If they want to compete they need to quit whining and make high quality cost effective products. Sorry if you are offended, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Yup, I was just coming here to say that Keebler's "knockoff" Grasshoopers have been available in stores for decades. Also, these WalMart cookies have been available in stores for at least eight years under different names. You also might take care to read the original "Cookie Mom" blog post on the matter -- Consumerist linked to it when they did their story last week -- the woman is teetering near outright loonhood.
