And another thing... she is NOT attractive. I don't understand why people continue to speak of her as a good looking woman. She looks like a man who went thru a sex-change operation, and the closer you look the scarier she appears.

Tears and Moments of Profundity (pt. 2)
What? Who is Karen? WHAT'S GOING ON?
Nobody tells me anything.
Damn it.
Tears and Moments of Profundity (pt. 1)
Who the hell is Karen? What the hell is going on?
Hey Perky, I'm drinking some Awesome wine right now!
How you doin? :-)
Tears and Moments of Profundity (pt. 2)
You drink too, huh? :-)
Exploding Nuts
No, no, Perky, I didn't do anything.
La Divina started this thread.
She knew what she was doing.
Apple Cider Donuts from Atkins Farm in Amherst, Massachusetts
"It's Atkins Farms, not Atkin's Farms. The farms do not belong to one Atkin, they belong to the Atkins family. (In fact it should be Atkins' Farms, but if they've chosen to name it Atkins Farms then so be it, that's the name of the business.) But under no circumstances should it be Atkin's Farms."
Hahaha... what the HELL is wrong with you? LOL ;-)
Exploding Nuts
"Exploding Nuts" ??
Are you f-in kidding me?? You're going to post THAT title on a Friday?
Lord God... give me strength... I'm trying so hard not to say anything...
Is it too early to talk about letters to Santa?
It's ok wunami. Calm down. Bad Santa experience as a child or something?
Perhaps check out some decaffeinated coffee for lunch today! :)
Eating out..Alone
On a lighter note -- My first thought when seeing the title of this thread...
"Eating out..Alone"
Somewhere, right now, there's a lady turning to her husband and saying...
"If I could do that.. I wouldn't need you, and I've never leave the house."
Eating out..Alone
OK, I've been thinking about this a lot and I've come to a realization.
Besides a couple close friends, and family... I have trouble eating around other people, period. It seems I can't relax and I don't really enjoy the food as much when eating among strangers, people I've just met, on dates, or just in public generally speaking. Sure, I think lots of people are shy like that to a certain degree, but I become a zombie just going thru the motions... heck, I can't even remember the food I eat on dates because I'm too nervous trying not to eat like a wild animal or something... I couldn't tell you if the food was good, bad, or whatever, because I'm worried something about my eating habits or manners are going to turn off the girl.
I should probably do something about this, I think I've got a complex.
Definitely plays a part in why I'm still single. I love food... but have trouble sharing the experience on an intimate level with another person.
Wow... what a depressing f**d-up topic this has become. I hate this site.

Eating out..Alone
I applaud anyone who can do it while remaining comfortable and confident.
I do it too, but often it makes me feel uncomfortable, especially if the place is crowded with couples, groups and families, and I'm the lone single diner... I feel like everyone is looking at me, thinking to themselves...

PumpkinBear said -- "I don't know how to use chopsticks"
Chinese people don't REALLY use chopsticks. The whole thing is just a trick to make Westerners (specifically, Caucasians) feel clumsy and inferior.
Think about it for a minute... it's 2 STICKS. Come on!
Five Guys - Drive Thru?
@resellers0 -- Thanks for your reply.
I thought it might be against company policy. For example, Chipotle has no drive-thrus, and I've seen them comment publicly that they do not want them, and the whole concept goes against what they stand for.
So... since Five Guys is-to McDonald's, what Chipotle is-to Taco Bell, I was curious to see if they share the same feelings. And I don't recall ever seeing anybody mention a Five Guys' drive-thru.
For the record, I've written to them, but have yet to get a reply. That's why I'm asking my SE friends.
Go Phillies!!!!!!!!!!!!
Game over, Phillies win. Congrats Izzy.
I'm glad somebody's team is doing well.
On Banning Photography from Restaurants
I just got back from Corton. The website asks guests to refrain from using flash photography and cell phones. I accept that gladly. You quote Drew here as saying,
"No, we're not going to stop people from taking photos," Nieporent said. "We'd just like people to be considerate of the other people in the restaurant.""
So why, when I entered, was I told that no photography was permitted. I asked nicely and was told, "no". The host asked the chef and reiterated that it was not permissible. I explained that I would not use a flash. I explained that I would not use the photos online nor for any commercial purposes. Still, my request was refused. I feel lied to based on the website only saying that "flash photography" was not permitted and also the quote here from Drew. So Drew, why is this?
The food at Corton was good but, just like Momofuku Ko, I won't be back. I see no reason to reward restaurants who don't consider my desire for a permanent memory, valid. They can make any policies they like but I still get to chose where I dine. I also chose to deal with people who advertise honestly. Drew said that, "we're not going to stop people" but that is just what they did. That to me is deceptive.
In the interest of full disclosure, the host did comp a round of drinks for us because of this. Still, it, (please, please, pardon the pun, leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
A White Manna / White Mana Pilgrimage Revisited
Went to White Manna today... wow.
Fantastic chocolate milkshake as well!
The Hamburger Fatty Melt, a Burger with Two Grilled Cheese Sandwiches as Its Bun
Lettuce? Whaddya, crazy? Why? It adds nothing. Maybe some arugula (strong flavor) under the burger if you need a built-in salad, but plain old lettuce would just disappear.
But tomato in the grilled cheeses sounds good. Gotta have tomato on a cheeseburger.
I'm thinking maybe blue and swiss/Gruyère/Comté for the cheeses (one each), if not all extra-sharp cheddar. If using jalapeño cheddar (or better yet, habanero cheddar), only in one sammy, plain cheddar on the other. Otherwise the chiles will overwhelm everything else.
Bacon only if using cheddar. And not too much. Still have to taste the burger. Balance is important.

Oh my, WHEN are THEY going to come up with that magic pill? Can you imagine this creation with a side of fettucine Alfredo?
Southern Food - What's your favorite?
I am surprised that only @Divadog mentioned banana pudding - my, my, how well I remember my first taste in South Carolina - would love a real recipe - up here in Canada one can get banana cream pie, but it cannot touch southern banana pudding.
Also, hush puppies, not the mass produced ones, but the lovely crispy, fluffy ones produced in small restaurants - bliss.
Frogmore stew or Brunswick stew - I have seen it called both, but I have reproduced it in Canada to rave reviews - I had to buy my Old Bay seasoning stateside, though I believe if you shop around in specialty stores you can find it now.
Deep fried okra, biscuits, shrimp & grits - need I go on - our vacations in the South necessitate a great deal of restraint.
I have mentioned before how lucky people in the South are, to have both sweet and non sweet ice tea available at almost every restaurant you enter. There is absolutely nothing nicer than to walk in from the torpid heat and humidity and have a large, cold glass of tea!
Southern Food - What's your favorite?
I'm a southern girl..born and raised in Texas.. and my favorite southern style foods are chicken fried steak, biscuits and sausage gravy, real texas chili (no beans) it's gotta be meaty, bbq brisket, cornbread and pintos, hush puppies, ambrosia, pecan pie and I like an occasional crawfish boil :) And I love sweet tea :)

Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
it would have to be hands down to chick fil a. take into consideration the quality of their food as well as price point, flavor and texture. i've had both. i was Extremely disappointed with mcdonalds (as always really). i'm not one for take out and fast food however knowing that chick fil a hand batters each breast, fresh (Actually Fresh!) is a winner. i worked at a mcdonalds - it makes no sense how they are comparable - to me its a sad sad copy cat. oh, PS...mcdonald's "southern style" chicken on a biscuit is also a joke.
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
I really hate pickles on a chicken sandwich period, no matter who makes it! I always pick them off!
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
Chick-Fil-A definitely has the better sandwich but McDonald's is not a bad second if you can't get to CFA! McDonald's is open later and on Sundays!

How was your school's hot lunch?
@tvilov, perhaps you would be better off not knowing.
How was your school's hot lunch?
I attended Oakland High School in Oakland California in the late '50's. The lunches in the school cafateria were not really that bad. In particular I liked the hamburgers, they had a very distinct taste, a taste that I have not found in any hamburger I have eaten since. Something was added to the hamburger meat during preparation to give it the distinct taste, I suspect that it was a condiment but to this day I have been unable to recreate the taste. I have been looking for information on a cookbook that the Alameda County public schools may have been using at the time, perhaps it would have the recipe for the hamburgers.
I heart mustard..do you?
Is there anyone that can give me ways to USE Chinese hot mustard? I don't want to just dip my egg rolls in it. I love the flavor, so want to stick it in some recipes...maybe slow cook some pork? Thank you for any suggestions.
Starbucks Breakfast Sandwiches: Now Less Smelly
"You can get a better egg sandwich at any corner deli."
If you live somewhere that HAS corner delis. Our only breakfast options are a bad McD, Chick Fil A (gag), or Hardees. So we are VERRRRRY happy to have Starbucks' breakfast sandwiches!!!!!!!!!!
What Does Michael Phelps Eat for Breakfast? More Stuff Than You Eat All Day
okay... i am 13 years old and swim quite a bit in fact... i swim for the CJACs, The Barracuddas, Driftwood, and Ranney School Swim Team, year long. i love training and even though i only way 87 lbs, i still eat about 4,000 calories a day. i am still training for the 2012 olympics because i have beaten 9 Junior Olympics records and gotten golds in every event i traine d for including the 100 Butterfly which takes a lot of calories to swim. Every night before practice you eat tons and tons of emty calories... but you get used to it!!!
Review: In-N-Out Burger

Does Molecular Gastronomy Make You Nervous?
the tasting menu at WD-50 blew my mind away. it opened a whole new world of textures and flavor combinations for me. i will agree not everything worked, but the ones they did pull off were spectacular. yes, a lot of it will end up being a stupid fab/trend, but i am excited about the new ground that is being explored here.
12-Year Old McDonald's Hamburger, Still Looking Good
I have a vegetable collection that is older. They used to have these things called jars and you could put things in them and it would make them last for a long time. If only we could recreate this somehow without the jars. That would be amazing.
On Banning Photography from Restaurants
I feel shy about taking pictures of food (I don't know why, but I feel like some sort of freak, the only person on the planet to do this, which is obviously nonsense), and only do so occasionally, but as long as other patrons are being strictly omitted from the images, and a flash isn't used, I don't think this is a problem. True, food is meant to be eaten, but sometimes it is also so impressive visually, I want to show a few friends, and I'll take a shot. I usually only move myself or the dish I'm shooting in order to ensure that other diners aren't in the shot. As long taking a picture or two is a brief, low-key incident, it seems fine.
It seems strange that any restaurant would ban even the taking of photos of the diners at one's own table, as this has been a longstanding tradition, and I can remember seeing this done even when I was a small child (in excellent restaurants), by people celebrating some special event; the waiter was often included in the shot. And let's not forget all those photos of dinners at all classes of restaurants that go back as far as the existence of the SLR camera, at least
On the other hand, use of the terms 'food porn' and 'foodie' should be punishable by law ;)
54-Inch Delivery Pizza in Los Angeles, Going for World Record

The Bacon Hamburger Fatty Melt, a Bacon Burger with Two Bacon-Stuffed Grilled Cheese Sandwiches as Bun
If I had any bacon left, I'd do this idea tomorrow for lunch/dinner. As it is, to really put the topper on it, I had a few ideas on how to make this really nice and unhealthy.... first, take a page from the burger with the cheese ooze core... stuff some cheese in the burger as well! maybe chop up some bacon to mix in with the meat too. Next, gotta add some mayo, then slap a fried egg in there as well. If you're still alive and not on your way to the hospital after the first bite, then I'd applaud you, but you may want to have someone ready just in case.... in case you take a second bite.
