Malbec is a natural for pizza as Argentines consider themselves Italian more than they do Spaniards....and when they aren't feasting on huge amounts of meat the are eating pasta and...pizza..so Malbec is a locally classic match and one of the more traditionally Italianate labels locally would be tasty-- from Valentin Bianchi to Zuccardi...
Duly noted square_pie! And the Grinch would be proud of that roast beast wine selection...
and yes..not everyone drinks beer with their pizza (though it does work as we all know!)
Nice series of comments above-- as this is a wine column, I will always defer to the beer experts as I will not be commenting on non grape beverages here both by choice and my editor's wishes!...
Rose wines can work too though they can be washed out of too subtle or the tomatoes are too tangy...Cab franc can work too but I opted for a few more Italo-choices (though yes there is some cab franc in Italy)..remember readers, it's all subjective in the end!
Cathy- With steak tartare, a bright red can be nice-- a fresh Chinon would be nice (especially if, like me, you love your capers!), though sparkling isn't a bad call be it rose or other high quality Methode Traditionelle bottling...Higher acid, soft tannin reds are going to be very successful as a general rule.
