Cook the Book: 'Screen Doors and Sweet Tea'
Sweet tea!!!!
Challah, potato kugel, latkes. I am ALL about the starches.
Washington would either be cherry or blackberry. Wait: cherry-blackberry!
My mom! I was her sous-chef, until we start trading nights of cooking.
Anthony Bourdain, for his sheer gutsiness at what he'll eat, Ruth Reichl for how she weaves food into her life in her books, and oddly, Laura Ingalls Wilder, because those books are nearly a bible for how farmers got their food at that time period.
I'm of the "I like hard matzoh balls" camp, actually. To me, if they're fluffy, they're annoying. Therefore, I use the recipe on the package, then add extra matzoh meal before sticking them in the fridge.
However, what I do to make them tasty is this: add in an awful lot of celery salt, a good handful of marjoram that I crush right in my palm, before dumping those in the eggs, and a little basil, treated the same way. If you want them to be REALLY good, instead of using water to add to the batter/dough, use chicken soup. (BTW, if you use bouillon, I advise Carmel's brand of chicken bouillon, it's like having Bubbe's soup, if not quite as good.)
I also roll them into balls with my hands, to add to the density.
HOORAY! I am a complete Alton Fangirl, I admit it. He's the perfect combination of technique, science and passion, plus, he's adorable. he looks like real people, doing interesting things with wonderful cooking. I've learned a lot from him, and my son loves him, too.
Brie, brie and brie. Yum.
I like it pliant, by preference. But I'll eat it any other way.

Alcoholic- margaritas hands down (fresh limes though)
Non Alcoholic- iced tea
Gin and tonics are my favorite for something cool to drink while sitting on my patio.
Mint juleps! Forget mojitos, I prefer this classic work of art in bourbon, mint, sugar and ice - the perfect compliment to relaxing on a porch swing or rocker.
Give me a refreshing Gordon's Cup made with cucumber and limes - you can add a splash of Midori for extra pizazz!
I love a Sea Breeze - vodka, cranberry juice, and a squeeze of fresh lime. Ahhh!
Cherry limeade, made with club soda and not plain water. Fizzy and fresh and cold, it hits all the right spots.
for me its gotta be lemonaide or a margarita...yum!
i love tea and cranberry juice.... but, omg, the root beer floats post really zings... and lime sherbert with ginger ale!!
