Blueberry Buttermilk Cake
I would love that recipe!
Cook the Book: 'Endangered Recipes' by Lari Robling
Making Hobo Dinners. Ground chuck patties, sliced potatoes, onions, bell peppers & mushrooms. A little salt and black peppered within an inch of their life. The old school way was to make them in heavy duty foil packets and bury them in coals in the ground. Now, we make them on weeknights in the oven. It's my childhood in a steaming silver package!
Cook the Book: 'Serious Barbecue' by Adam Perry Lang
Anytime I tackle grilling in unperfect weather. I'm like the Post Office--no weather event can hold me back when my grill beckons! In snow, sleet, thunderstorms and soaking rain (last night, in fact) my grill wins out everytime!

Cook the Book: 'Real Cajun'
Here in the South, we associate love and food. All of my memories are of all of the great foods and snacks my momma made throughout my life. Cheese toast or cinnamon sugar toast in the morning, sometimes cut in long strips if I were on the go. Goulash, fried chicken, chicken and noodles, roast, taco salads, mashed potatoes, desserts galore.
No wonder I have a "junky trunk"! But it was packed on out of love! :o)
Cook the Book: 'The Asian Grill'
The country club where I used to work was always losing power. Trouble was, there are a ton of members who have homes on the same grounds as the club. So, when their power went out too, they would all swarm the club for food, not caring or realizing that we were without power as well. Members are always "right"!
We were able to make cold item like salads & sandwiches and we also fired up the grill outside for burgers, dogs, brats, chicken, etc. One man simply blew his top when he was told we could not serve french fries, since the fryer was down and demanded to know why we could not just place them on the grill. No, we did not attempt even though he was livid.
Ahhhhh, the country club life!
Reeses Peanut Butter Eggs....Easter Nirvana?
I love them striaght out of the freezer! Sooooo Goooood!
I agree with flags for the 4th of July. How about pumpkins for Halloween? Turkeys at Thanksgiving? Flowers for Spring? There is too long of a stretch between Easter & Christmas!
And I wish I could take advantage of them discounted after the holiday. I've learned if you don't snatch your batch up at least 2 weeks before said holiday, you will be S.O.L. They FLY out of our small town Wally World.

Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
it would have to be hands down to chick fil a. take into consideration the quality of their food as well as price point, flavor and texture. i've had both. i was Extremely disappointed with mcdonalds (as always really). i'm not one for take out and fast food however knowing that chick fil a hand batters each breast, fresh (Actually Fresh!) is a winner. i worked at a mcdonalds - it makes no sense how they are comparable - to me its a sad sad copy cat. oh, PS...mcdonald's "southern style" chicken on a biscuit is also a joke.
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
I really hate pickles on a chicken sandwich period, no matter who makes it! I always pick them off!
Throwdown: Chick-fil-A vs. McDonald's Southern Style Chicken
Chick-Fil-A definitely has the better sandwich but McDonald's is not a bad second if you can't get to CFA! McDonald's is open later and on Sundays!
What’s Your Favorite Weird Snack Combo?
I used to go to the LA Reader office on Friday mornings to collect my mail, then I'd stop in the chain drugstore nearby to pick up a piece of beef jerky, and a package of vanilla creme sandwich cookies, which I'd eat while driving to my day job. Not together, just back-to-back. Can't remember if I ate the jerky or the cookies first, nor why I thought those would make a good breakfast.
How do you make the perfect mashed potatoes?
My daughter has discovered Yukon Golds so we use those now, but usually we use russets. Cut them in half and bring to a boil in salted water. When done, drain, remove to a plate, and turn heat down to low. Place each half of potato into a ricer (cut side down), and squeeze the potato into the cooking pot on low. After all the potatoes have been riced, keep sitrring until the bottom of the pot begins to get a thin layer of stuck potato. Add butter (and cheese if using), mix together then add the salt, pepper and milk.
The trick of driying out the potatoes in a low heat pan is from Julia Child.
Yukon Gold or Russet

Top 10 Awesome Nostalgic Foods We Want Back
I miss the S'mores cookies and Fudgies, the little Kraft chewy candies in a gold wrapper. Does anyone remember the cereal, Double-Dip Crunch? I was like a "frosted" Crispix. Mmmmm!!! Oh, and the Quacker "strawberry" snack/dessert bars that looked like Nutri-Grain but had a little "squiggle" of white "icing" on top. I'm hungry now.

Cook the Book: 'Rustic Fruit Desserts'
I had already commented and was reading some of the others when I remembered another favorite of mine. I don't know if any of you will have tried it, but I love "Wojapi". It's a traditional Sioux kind-of a fruit pudding. In the old days they used to use dried berries, especially chokecherries, but now we make it with fresh or frozen berries, any kind. I love to make it and everyone loves to eat it!
