Burgering Through D.C.'s Georgetown

I know it is a chain now, but isn't the original Five Guys in Georgetown? I only know one person who has been to the original and a franchise and he says the original is better. But to me they are really good burgers.

I forgot to add that I think some Greek yogurt mixed with mint jelly could be a good topping for lamb burgers

Dinner Tonight: Lamb Burgers

I made some lamb burgers (lamburgers) about three months ago. I didn't really do anything special to them besides adding just salt and pepper, wanted to see how they tasted before adding ingredients. For the condiment on top I took some mayonnaise and mixed it with mint jelly.

What I would want to do next time I try and make some lamb burgers is chop up some fresh mint and mix it into the raw meat. And then just sear the burger with some salt on it and finish it in the broiler.

I would probably take some pork loin chops and marinate them for two days in white wine with some salt and pepper. Then I would just sear it in a pain and put it under the broiler for a little bit.

Something simple that taste good

50/50 lamb and ground beef, seasoned only with salt and pepper are our standard burgers nowadays. Toss in a good dose of Hungarian paprika and onion for most excellent cevapi burgers that beg to be topped with homemade tzatziki... mmmmmmm......

You should try Burger Joint in Bathesda. Also I've heard amazing things about Ray's Butcher Burger in Alexandria. That place has a sister resteraunt that is a steakhouse so they use a lot of high quality beef for their burgers.

First Five Guys was in Alexandria VA, I believe.

Mr. Smith's is nasty. You should have skipped it and gotten the Black and Blue burger at The Guards if you needed to stay in Georgetown. Or Chadwicks (under the Whitehurst), I've never been but I know people who swear by their burger.

Nick has some of the best reviews of burgers -- or any other food -- hands-down, no questions, end of story. If you want diverse reviews (albeit from know-nothing morons), go Yelp.

The first Five Guys, was definately not in Georgetown. I believe the first one was in Arlington, VA but doesn't exist anymore. While this is hardly an original thought, my vote for best burger in DC is the front bar of Palena.

Dinner Tonight: Lamb Burgers

love lamb burgers -- i mix into the meat very gently -- chopped scallions, fresh mint or cilantro - chopped garlic -- mix that up and THEN - some
crumbled feta mixed in very gently.

we cooked them on the grill - you have to watch because the fat in
the lamb causes flare ups -- but the flavor!!! and a cast iron frying
pan works well, too. sometimes the feta sticks, but what the hell ...

I take whole cumin, coriander, black pepper, and fennel seeds and toast them in a pan, grind them into a coarse mixture and put that and some kosher salt on the lamb burger. I top it with feta, some mayo mixed with harissa, and a tomato and arugula.

I like some of the ideas on here like adding the feta into the meat mixture.

I would make my favorite comfort food - baked mac & cheese. There's chicken, walnuts, mushrooms, and a roux of gorgonzola, white cheddar, and bleu cheese. Topped with scallions, this is divine.

For a dessert, I would make rice pudding with lemon zest. It would be a carby, heavy entry, but everyone would be bursting with happiness and cheese.
