First Look: Fort Reno, a New Barbecue Spot in Park Slope

@Erin Zimmer Chef Gautier was there too, standing just outside the kitchen watching the dishes as they were plated. On any other occasion I would have demanded some sort of explanation and apology, but I was dining with my girlfriend and her mother on Mothers Day so I just politely said I wasn't feeling hungry and left it at that rather than make things uncomfortable. However, three years later and I won't let any reference to Palo Santo go by without warning people to stay away.

I've made the mistake of eating at Palo Santo twice. The first time I was a bit put off by the ridiculous price to serving size ratio of some of the dishes. The second time I ordered a boar tenderloin entree, was told they were out and were substituting regular pork tenderloin and was served something that was so riddled with sinew and silver skin that it could only be pork shoulder that was cut to resemble a piece of tenderloin. They gave me a friggin steak knife with the meal and I still couldn't cut into it. Gautier is a cheapskate fraud. It's too bad he's associated with this venture as there is no BBQ in Park Slope right now. I'll be waiting for the Dinosaur BBQ to open down the street.

Di Fara: Rant and Response

Girl Slice is correct on all points, but I would add one more. It's a freaking pigsty in there. Trash all over the tables and floor. Dirty floors. Just gross. And the thing is, if the pizza were really good I could ignore all that. The best meal I had during to a three week trip to Africa was in a Tanzanian nyama choma bar which literally had rats crawling up the walls. But that nyama choma kicked ass so I didn't care. DiFara's is just a burnt, oily disaster of a pie so the generally filthiness of the place is just one more reason not to go.

Bark's prices are absurd. The food does taste good, but it's still a ripoff.

Daily Slice: Roma Pizza, Park Slope, Brooklyn

Oh my god. Do not try Pizza Town. Terrible pies. Roma is pretty much the best in North Slope. Although I've yet to try the recently opened South Brooklyn Pizza on 1st St. I would guess it's probably better, albeit twice as expensive.

Yea or Nay: Coffee and Hamburgers

@Serious Eats crew

Can we never hear about Josh Ozersky again, please? Not only is chiffonte right that he is an "egotistical blowhard", but he also makes statements that are just dumb. He wants to drink coffee with burgers not because it would be a delicious combination, but because he thinks it's "secret, and precious, and conspiratorial". I have no idea what the hell that means, but I imagine it's poetic license for "cool". Is that really what this sight is about? Eating things that are cool, regardless of taste or craft?

Umm, how about neither.
