Where Does the Bobby Flay Hate Come From?
For anyone who has actually *worked* in a restaurant, they know that kitchen staff are not the nicest people in the world. The profession at all levels tends to encourage brutish personalities in the workplace, but especially at the supervisor or chef level. Things that would get you fired instantly anywhere else, like nightly profanity-laced tirades, are business as usual for the kitchen staff.
So I think the Bobby Flay hate either comes from people who've never worked in a restaurant and therefore aren't accustomed to the brutish personality type, or people who have worked in a restaurant, see the shades of douchebaggery Bobby Flay tries to repress, and resent him greatly for it.
Dinner Tonight: Bourdain's Mushroom Soup
This recipe was as advertised: (1) delicious and (2) dimple to make.
I made this recipe "as is" but with one major alteration. I sauteed the mushrooms and onions until they were *very* browned (like Pastor Ryan's Mushrooms at Pioneer Woman's blog). This alteration added a noticeable depth of flavor to the original recipe. It also darkened the color, so keep that in mind if that's a consideration.
Does Your Grocery Store Have You Crying Tears of Joy?
Wegmans is definitely the "tears of joy" grocery store on my list. Sadly, it's 20 minutes away from where I now live. It's hard to justify the additional gas expense when two (2!) giant food stores are within a few miles from me.
The Wegmans organic 3-seed wheat bread I still have cravings for!

Gimmicky food isn't romantic food. Romance is about excitement and mystery. So, what really makes food "romantic" is the entire context that it's served in. Cater to the other person's tastes, spend time preparing a well-made meal, get the ambiance right, and get the timing right (planning ahead is always great, but a romantic meal is especially meaningful at the end of a tough work week or something else of that nature).
