I'm bored with my panini maker.

The Williams Sonoma Grilled Sandwiches book is excellent and includes paninis for all meals. Very diverse book ranging from just a couple ingredients to many.

Starwich - your opinions?

There are 6 locations so far (7th in the works) in nyc and others in other states. I've ordered delivery from wall st before before and i loved the sandwich i created. I thought it was a decent size and it was satisfying. My husband on the other hand, came up with some weird concoction and was definitely not as happy. But they arent responsible for bad combos. -http://www.starwich.com/

Looking for a good recipe for sugar-free peanut butter cookies

I made this recipe for my work's potluck and people really liked:
Magical Peanut Butter Cookies

Recipe courtesy Paula Deen
Show: Paula's Home Cooking
Episode: Healthy Cooking

1 cup peanut butter, creamy or crunchy
1 1/3 cups baking sugar replacement (recommended: Splenda)
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a large baking sheet.

In a mixing bowl, combine the peanut butter, 1 cup sugar replacement, the egg, and vanilla, and stir well with a spoon. Roll the dough into balls the size of walnuts. Place the balls on the prepared baking sheet. With a fork, dipped in sugar replacement to prevent sticking, press a crisscross design on each cookie. Bake for 12 minutes, remove from the oven, and sprinkle the cookies with some of the remaining sugar replacement. Cool slightly before removing from pan.

What do you order when you go to the cheap Chinese takeout?

The hallmark of any chinese take out are these. If they don't have any of these items, look elsewhere.

(1) Beef chow fun, dry style, with little oil -- gwon chow gnow haw
(2) Tomatoe beef chow mein, crispy noodle, hong kong style -- fon ke gnow chow mein, hong kong chow.

If they barbeque their own meats on the premises (3) anything that looks good over rice is good.

For comfort food, try (4) pig nuckle noodle soup -- gee siew mein tong.

PB&Nutella panini. Think outside the normal cheese/meat combo box. The sandwiches cookbook from 'ino is amazing.

Looking for a good recipe for sugar-free peanut butter cookies

I finally tried these today. I think 12 minutes may be a minute or two too long - the cookies crumble quite easily. They taste great, though - very peanutty. It's just the texture isn't quite right.

I'll probably try making them a few more times to see if I can improve the recipe at all, and I'll look at regular PB cookie recipes too to see if I can adapt the SF recipe at all.

I loooove egg foo young!!! Everyone looks at me like I'm from an alien planet when I'm eating that. I could live off that stuff. And crab rangoon. So, creamy and delicious. We do have the hobo style and not the funky triangle version. With lots of filling too. And egg rolls!!! I love those too! I'm so not healthy when it comes to chinese food. Man, I want some chinese now.

Question of the Day: What are you planning to eat during the Super Bowl?

My dad made a huge pot of chili today, so I had that on top of some brown rice, with sour cream and cheddar cheese. I usually make nachos, but feel like it this year. Instead, I threw some tortilla chips into the bowl. And I washed it all down some Yuengling Black & Tan.

Question of the Day: What are you planning to eat during the Super Bowl?

I'm based in France... so I had dinner way before the Superbowl would even happen. Still... got all festive... went with sausage, potatoes and guacamole, but done french style. So boudin blanc aux trompettes de mort, carottes de sable, roasted salt potatoes and guacamole à la poire. Enjoy and GO BEARS!

Question of the Day: What are you planning to eat during the Super Bowl?

Every year I have the basics; beer, shrimp, and chicken wings. These are appetizers for my favorite food, hot dogs. This year I will be having a special hot dog. I live in N.J. but several years ago I came across numerous posts extolling the virtues of the Romanian Kosher Sausage Company's hot dogs. I had someone send me some. They are excellent hot dogs, beefy and a well balanced flavor profile. Chicago dogs are a little less spicy/garlicky than New York beef dogs. Although Vienna Beef franks are served at over 80% of the hot dog restaurants in Chicago, Romanian's are better. I compared the 2 brands side by side at home. I'm lucky to have a place near me (J's Beef in Linden, N.J.) that serves an authentic Chicago style dog with ingredients shipped in from Chicago. Although the Vienna frank may not be my favorite beef dog, it is a good choice for a Chicago hot dog as it blends in well and doesn't overpower the other ingredients. The Romanian Kosher frank is one of the best dogs I've ever had along with Best's (Newark, N.J., not Chicago) Sabrett, (Papaya King and Katz's use these dogs) Usinger's and Thumanns. Made in a kosher butcher shop in Chicago, these dogs are actually Glatt Kosher. Many people claim that the salami made here is the best they've had. I would recommend this place to anyone living in or around Chicago. Unfortunately, they do not do mail orders.

Question of the Day: What are you planning to eat during the Super Bowl?

Our tradition is to go to our local pizza place and take full advantage of the salad bar. We almost never drink alcohol and sodas or tea are bottomless glasses so the beverages are quite reasonable. At half time we order a pizza. Usually by the last quarter we are back at the salad bar perusing the fruits and other sweet items. It works out quite nicely and all for about ten bucks a head.

Someday our beloved 'Niners will be there again! (We might have to celebrate a little harder than salads and pizza when that happens.)

Starwich - your opinions?

Oh -- typically I hate that set-up, where YOU have to mix and match the bread, protein, cheese, veggies/toppings. Luckily, they do have some standard sandwiches, but in general, I hate having to come up with a combo. I'm not the sandwich artist; they are, presumably. So THEY should be making good combos. There's too much danger in letting me muck about with it.

From Talk

Starwich - your opinions?

There's one on 38th and Sixth Avenue that I used to go to sometimes when I worked on 42nd Street. I had the same reaction as you, Sandro, regarding price. For the size of sandwich you get, it seems fairly steep. But I have to admit, the "grilled cheese" -- ham, apple, endive, honey dijon, and white truffle oil on a nice crunchy ciabatta roll -- is really really good. Had it a handful of times but didn't go much simply because of the price and the distance -- there was a Pret in the lobby of my building at the time.
