Minca is a good downtown choice, but I would travel for Totto.
Look... I accept the fact that there are many fine food purveyors out there, but no one can compare to The Arepa Lady. The arepas are remarkable and she is a welcoming, good-hearted presence.
Since it opened, there has been nothing - flavor to flavor - that is better than the Lab!
Dosa from the Washington Sq. cart.
I'm going to keep it in Queens - Lamb Noodle Soup in Golden Mall, Biang, Cana for Korean, and Shanghai 33 for soup dumplings and lion's head..
Cana is easily my favorite - the food is terrific and you are treated as though you are visiting in someone's home.
A little onion, salt and pepper, starchy potato (squeezed dry) - all helpful. BUT the most important is to fry them in chicken fat if possible!!
Curry Mee - from Nyona Sunset Park...
Deboned chicken - once to stuff it Italian style with Parmesean, herbs, sausage and once to stuff it Chinese style with rice, mushrooms, ginger, and - of course - sausage.
Has to be my grandmother's... on my father's side, of course!
Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Caramelized Onions and Bacon - an undisputed winner...
I'ld have to go with 15 East just edging out Blue Smoke and Spot...
For sure - chicken rice and laksa, lots o' laksa
Torrisi: new-old Italian!
Maialino has a "life-changing" pancetta side....
The Lab.. very simple!
Whitefish salad on bagels or pumpernickel...
I'm a porterhouse believer...
Very... VERY difficult - so many noodles, so hard to decide... I'll lean toward Vietnamese.
Enough already with cupcakes! We should be turning our attention to more meaningful concerns... like PIE!
I'll have to go with Pho over crispy pata... my cardiologist doesn't object to Pho.
Il laboratorio del gelato - warm weather, cold weather, dry weather, wet weather... weather or not!
hmmm very difficult... jackson hgts is terrific, flushing is remarkable but...
katz's, russ and daughters, kosar, donut plant, lab del gelato, dumplings, hand-pulled noodles - has to be LES!!
I've really enjoyed the falafel at Taim, but my favorite by far is Ali's at Kabab Cafe - the texture and intensity of flavor put his falafel in another league.
