I love eating, cooking, talking about food, thinking about food, and of course FOOD! I spent 2 years traveling around the world staying almost exclusively in local people's homes working with them and eating around their tables. Unforgettable!
Flour tortilla, thin layer of butter and salt all over it, roll it up tightly, wrap in a paper towel, and microwave. A childhood favorite snack that makes me so very happy every single time.
Also ranch powder packets on popcorn. mmmmm yes
youre a goddess and everyone should worship you.
My mom always put italian dressing on the hot, slightly overcooked pasta (Radiatori specifically) and let it cool. The flavor seeped in and gave it just enough tang- no need to add additional vinegar. Still my favorite pasta salad to this day!
DUDE. come on!
FULLY support TL;DR making an appearance on SE! #reddit
Funny, I also came to this comments section specifically to talk about this same topic- also to mention how bizarre the constant DiGiorno sponsored stories are. Unfortunately I think us die-hard longtime readers are the only ones that are even slightly bothered by this stuff and the new overall tone of the site. As someone who dearly misses Slice as a separate entity, it's disappointing to see ad posts for a lame frozen pizza every time I log on. I still read SE regularly and don't plan on stopping but I'm not loving the stylistic shift in the site as a whole and actually glad to see I'm not alone in noticing it.
Straight up *aroused* while reading this. Thank you Kenji!
Now you get to enjoy the pure bliss that is going to Emilia's for a pizza from Keith! After moving to LA in the beginning of this year from Oakland it is definitely in my top 5 things I miss the most about living in the bay. I miss my Emilia's nights so much!
I love Manti so much and they can be very hard to find done well. The best ones I have had are at a little unassuming restaurant in Cliffside Park, NJ called Turkish Kitchen. A family-run place with incredibly nice staff and food that is lovingly prepared and well seasoned. Longing for it here on the west coast...
"Overstuffing each hole"
heeheeheehee It's not even 10am and this made me giggle!
Although that ridiculous mistake I made somehow fits your awesomeness- I just don't know how!
Girl the descriptions on these photos, especially the one for photo #9, are some of the sexiest funniest most awesome captions for a slideshow Ive ever seen!
They are and will always be JIMMIES!
I agree, the pastries at Sqirl are thoughtful and excellent!
I WILL say however that Sqirl suffers from "Hipster Service"- a term I first heard from Jerry Seinfeld. I can't speak for every single employee, but I was definitely given that special brand of "why are you even here?" attitude before. I might ask "What is the Malva Cake?" and get "Malvas the city its from." as an answer with no further explanation, just a blank stare at me to follow.
Just had to vent. There is no reason for service industry professionals to act like they are 'too cool' to help their customers. Period.
Wishing I could get Philly-style soft pretzels in LA takes up a shockingly large chunk of my brain.
YES I have been lusting after these for DAYS! So so so happy to see this article. I have very specific childhood memories of these in Philly.
But homemade with cream cheese! Seeing that box brings back some lovely nostalgic memories but in my hood they were almost always made from scratch. Would've been nice to link a cream-cheese-inclusive recipe for them when it was mentioned!
This past fall I planned an entire day and night detour through New Haven, CT on my way from NYC to Massachusetts to do a Sallys/Pepes pizza crawl. BEST DECISION EVER!
I am SO into this series! Opening people's kitchen cabinets and fridges is one of the greatest joys of my life :)
Oooh thank you girl for the heads up! Just moved to LA from the Bay Area where Emilia's was my church. Might spontaneously head to Grimaldi's for lunch today! Love your fiesty reviews and totes wanna eat pizza with you! Find me on twitter @QuizPrincess let's pizza it up ger!
tomahto fer sher!
I am ALLLLL about it! I was on the road alone for years and really grew comfortable doing any number of activities solo- to the point where I often now prefer it! People that only know the extremely outgoing and social side of me may be surprised at how excited I get to have alone time. Eating out, at the bar, going to movies/concerts....LOVE. IT.
Finally tried Motorino this fall- WIN!
But honestly the best pizza I've had all year is always any year I'm lucky enough to have Emilia's in Berkeley. Keith is the best and I'm really upset I couldn't make it there this month. Excited for post-holiday Emilia's special time!!!
Honorable mention to newly opened "The Star" in Oakland. Mmmm.
Happy Birthday Serious Eats! Glad to know we share the same birthday week. I have been reading you since almost the beginning and when I am in town I try and check you every day. I was a lurker for YEARS and this is still one of the only sites on the whole internet that I actually comment on and like to be involved with. I love you and I'm so happy I found you and that you NEVER call us "Foodies"!
UPDATE: made this for a party this weekend with a little over 3/4 cup lime juice and it was even MORE amazing! Key lime pie lovers and tarts fanatics take note! :)
