Your best gourmet burger recipe?

I love turkey burgers either stuffed or topped with very tangy goat cheese. I then top with roasted bell peppers and arugala or basil. Delicious on focaccia or a standard burger bun.

Soda, cola, pop, coke, etc.?

In Seattle, it's pop, though I say soda.

Lunch at Whole Foods

I love the deli sandwiches. Ours are named after local places in Seattle. I love the Golden Gardens Veggie sandwich. Basically a vegetarian panini.

Music & Cooking

Violent Femmes does it for me. Often while singing into whatever utensil I happen to be using at the time! My stereo perfectly uses up that empty space above the fridge. My other go-to for cooking is Snoop Dogg, though I cannot believe I haven't used the Beastie Boys yet!

Chili

I enjoy the vegetarian chili from Trader Joe's. It's made with tofu instead of meat (canned meat grosses me out?), and doesn't contain corn (which I am allergic to, and many vegetarian chilis have).

Overheard: strange things you've heard people say about food.

My Gram wouldn't eat any salad or raw vegetables, claiming it was "rabbit food." All vegetables and pasta had to be over cooked until soggy and mushy and served very, very hot.

I got to ask Tony Bourdain a question!

He's married, but oh so sexy...

_________ gives me heartburn

Orange juice, fruity mixed alcoholic drinks, and corn products all give me heartburn or some kind of gastro-intestinal discomfort!

Cook the Book: 'Panini Express'

My favorite at home is roasted bell peppers, goat cheese, and turkey on foccaccia.

Do you do weekend food prep for the week?

I wash and chop all of my vegetables for salads. I like my salads with lots of "stuff" but after 12 hours days, the last thing I want to do is wash and chop. Cucumber, tomato slices, and others are in their tupperware containers, ready to go!

We do cheeseburgers (usually Swiss, but sometimes cheddar with or without chiles added) and top them with a fried egg and a little ketchup. It's what my BF asks for every year for his birthday.

Also, I like a good burger topped with Saga blue or cambezolla cheese and some mushrooms that have been sauteed with a little shallot and garlic with a bit of dijon mustard on the bun.

I season my burgers with a bit of coarse sea salt and coarsely ground fresh pepper before cooking. We like the flavorful crust that results from doing it that way.

Your best gourmet burger recipe?

We make burgers (and converts along the way) with 50/50 ground sirloin and ground chuck. Serve with dill relish or hamburger dill slices, toasted buns and our favorite homemade catsup. Easy, make ahead sauce that our friends love. You can find it here.

Your best gourmet burger recipe?

@wookie - To my way of thinking, "gourmet" is in the eye of the beholder! Plus, my husband would never let you get away with saying "just regular plain old" about his truly beloved! Bon appetit...

Your best gourmet burger recipe?

@frederika--I have to confess that I bought ground sirloin to make the bulgogi burger of my dreams, but was so hungry by the time I made it home, that I slapped out two patties and grilled just regular plain old burgers seasoned only with s&p. Sorry, I feel like I've you down.

Your best gourmet burger recipe?

Maybe not gourmet, but good. I use turkey with kosher salt, pepper, parsley and butter:

I add water to the meat to keep it moist.

Enjoy!

I make regular beef burgers, but the best seasoning is Krazy Salt. Mix that with 80/20 beef and cook to medium, on an onion roll with grain mustard and swiss, pepperjack, or medium cheddar, and it is so good. Ooh, also good is the grain mustard cheese they sell at my local farmer's market...I am making myself hungry.

Soda, cola, pop, coke, etc.?

Growing up in New York, we called it "soder." Moving to Boston (OK, Somerville) in 1988 to be with my girlfriend, I had to get used to "tonic" or "pop."

In 1990, I moved with my sweetie Andi from Somerville to Seattle. Here, it seems to be "pop," "soda" or "soda pop."

I'll have the house fizzy water, as I usually say.
